No one knows how much we pay each of our players, right? Then how are we able to comment?? We don't know any details! Unless it's a case like Andy O'Brien, we are completely in the dark.
It doesn't appear to have been a final offer, so there's still plenty of room for negotiation. I really hope it's tied up before Christmas though. Our record with contract extensions is poor as we all know. White and Snodgrass should be dealt with before 2012 if Harvey and Bates actually want to show they're concerned about the fans' feelings and doubts in the slightest. The thing that concerns me more is Howson's, which has dragged out for far longer and suggests there really is a big gap between his demands and the club's maximum offer. A very real danger that he'll end up in the Johnson/Kilkenny situation and get binned for being 'greedy'. All these players want to play for Leeds, it's just that they also want to be respected by the club and not offered less than their second division counterparts (or in some cases, their LUFC counterparts). We make enough money to pay among the highest wages in the Championship if needs be and still operate at a healthy wages:turnover ratio. If it's a case of paying 20k-a-week for a top player or he'll go find football elsewhere, so be it, we should cough up.
What part of "if a player doesn't want to play for us, then bye bye !" do you object to ? If you actually read my posts I've already said that we don't know why he's rejected this initial offer. Could be for more money, could be the length of contract (too long OR short), I even said he might really want to play for Leeds and money may not be the issue. But if a player does't want to play for us (and this is not aimed specifically at White you know ?), what do you expect the club to do, send the boys round and force him to sign a contract and stay against his will ? By the way I haven't slagged off White at all, so who's talking **** ?
That's my opinion LW, just because your opinion differs doesn't mean I'm talking ****e. It's all here say anyway. People were having a go at both of those players after they had a bad game. Just because White has had a good few months does not mean he's entitled to act like billy big balls. You know exactly what I mean about players wanting to play for the club. Like I said, we don't know what's been offered or what White or indeed Howson want.
Just to clarify, we don't know whether White's acting Billy Big Balls or Shaun Harvey's acting Bobby Baby Bollocks, or whether it's somewhere inbetween.
if him and howson leave then we are ****ed, also that means the contract problems arent being solved and the same will happen to snods and clayton
If he goes, how much longer will we have Howson, Snoddy and Clayton. This whole " if they dont want to play for Leeds, sod em attitude" stinks. None of us will stay in a job if we can earn more elsewhere. If we are ever to aspire towards premiership football, these players must all be kept and on lengthy contracts, regardless what our wage ceiling is. Our contract policy stinks and anyone who thinks we are a better team without Johnson, Gradel and Beckford are quite simply in cloud cuckoo land
Ultimately, a club has to earn a player's loyalty rather than expect it. Jack Charlton and others wanted out of Leeds before Don Revie made it an appealing place to be. Would Madeley have signed a blank contract before we were a great club? Would he buggery. We're therefore in a situation where Bates has to endear this club to the current squad, and that will involve spending money on them and getting us promoted, among other things. Make them want to play for Leeds.
We don't offer good enough wages. People need to stop talking about loyalty, cause it simply doesn't exist in football today. Look at the players who stay at one club for their whole career - they are usually at top teams. If a player is playing in the Championship, well enough to get admiring glances from teams in the league above, he'll leave unless you pay him accordingly. We have the biggest turnover in the Championship. But we pay the lowest proportion of our turnover on wages in the league. We pay 50% of our turnover on wages, which is a lower percentage than any other club spends. So whilst we have the biggest turnover, we aren't offering wages of any higher amount than the clubs around us. We should be able to attract the best players in the league (bar West Ham). We've had players turn us down for Ipswich. It's simply not good enough. When you go to a game and pay out the highest ticket prices in the division, surely you don't expect your best players to be leaving on free transfers. Jermaine Beckford is rumoured to have told some fans way back in 2009, that his new contract didn't involve a wage rise from the one he signed when he was proving himself at the club. Bradley Johnson is on record as saying he wanted equality with the other first team regulars at the club. Kilkenny turned us down because we didn't offer him wages that reflected his squad status. Gradel didn't sign a new contract, so we sold him. Howson and White are now in the process of doing the same. Next season, Clayton and Snodgrass will be in the same situation. This isn't about players being greedy. It's about the club not paying them the wages that you need to pay to build a squad capable of promotion. The club don't deserve the loyalty of players like Johnson and Kilkenny, if they are trying to pull a fast one and pay them less than other first team regulars. Whatever you think about their playing ability, they were in the starting line up week in week out, but the club thought they could pay them less.
It looks like he wants to stay at Leeds but wants more money than he was been offered. Say what you want about Bates, but he doesn't let Leeds get bullied into extortionate wages for average players by greedy agents and players. Or we could end up like Hull, having an overpaid squad. Offer a higher contracts and if he rejects that, sell him in January and buy a better full back. Take a leaf out of Luciano book, Aidy on something called loyalty and Luciano isn't EVEN FROM LEEDS.
Of course, in January, Bates will likely sell Aidy and replace him with an Andy O'Brien probably on double the wage that would have got Aidy in the first place. So were refusing hima pay rise while we pay O'Briens wages for another couple of seasons. And you think Bates knows what hes at?
I'm not entirely sure about this case. I dont think he should be offered a very high contract, at the moment anyway. Hes young, not completed half a season yet let alone a full one. Not really proved himself over a season and i still think he is lightweight. I dont know whether this is his agent being greedy and thinking white is better than what he is but to me, that is the most likely. How much money would you guys be willing to pay a player like white, regardless of the length of the contract or anything else. At this point in time how much is he worth??
Hes worth a lot more than O Brien and O Dea are being paid so maybe that might be a good marker where to start negotiations
I think we need to learn from recent mistakes with regard to contracts! Personally I would have kept Bradley Johnson give him the bit more he was wanting rather than sign 2 **** players to cover for him (Varynen n Brown) Get rid of the deadwood and give the players we want to keep a better wage!
He's worth less than Clayton though so less than what Clayton's getting paid. It's difficult trying to find a happy medium, paying White what he/his agent thinks he's worth but at the same time not paying him more than more valuable players like Clayton, Snodgrass & Howson are on.
Shako mate It was you who was saying you think him and agent wanting too much. The facts are player after player, are not signing new deals. So either all our players are greedy or were not paying the market rate I also think that the way Aidy has been treated over the past two years, will not have helped
yea thats fair enough, i think O'Brien is on a ridiculously high wage though compared to what we as fans think he is worth. Personally i would be paying him about 10k a week if howson is currently on 11k and becchio is on 14k. Howson i would be giving around that 15k mark maybe pushing higher towards 20k along with snoddy. The thing is with this though is it may impact how much we can spend in january if this does happen not that im saying we shouldn't though
Exactly, no one knows Leeds 18, unfortunately there are people on here that think they do. The hypocrisy on this site regarding the team and manager is unreal.
Its an opinion. If E.Gray says no player is bigger than the club, well that's good enough for me. Lets go the Ridsdale route again.
