For sure their contribution was the deciding factor in the defeat of Nazi Germany. Much more so than the rest of the allied nations. But... The Red Army slaughtered 100s of thousands as they rampaged through eastern Europe on their way to Germany. They left carnage in their wake. In fact many eastern Europeans said they were worse than the Nazis. The death toll in the annexed Soviet union countries post WW2 far outnumbered the statistics whilst suffering Nazi occupation.
