I've decided to have a crack at the Market Rasen bumper (it's either that or clean the kitchen) so here goes. With all due respect to Exiguus (yard 0-10 in bumpers over the last 5 years), Take Him Tom (yard has had only 1 bumper runner in the last 5 years) and Scarlett Glance (tailed off on debut) there only appears to be a group of 4 runners who can get involved here. Short-priced favourite at around EVS is Olly Murphy's Forward Thinking who posted a decent effort on debut to finish 4th at Warwick a couple of weeks before Christmas. However there is nothing to suggest that was anything more than a run-of-the-mill bumper (the winner Legal Weapon has been well beaten under a penalty at Windsor since) and I'm not interested in Forward Thinking at those odds, especially as I am not a fan of his sire, Elusive Pimpernel, as a NH sire. Next best in the betting at around 5/2 is the Twister's Un Sens A La Vie who won his 2nd Irish point (3rd has since won and moved to Gordon Elliott) which offers hope. However his breeding wouldn't blow you away, the yard are not exactly banging in the winners and he has been very weak in the betting this morning. Next in the betting at around 3/1 is Fergal's Espresso Milan who also finished 4th on debut having gone off a well-backed 7/4 fav over C&D in December. The winner that day, Silver Hill, subsequently finished 4th under a penalty in a decent looking class 2 bumper at Sandown (prominent but tired late on heavy ground) which gives the form a reasonable look. The 2nd behind Silver Hill, Orderoftheday, finished 2nd again thereafter but probably bumped into one from Harry Derham's yard and the 3rd, Away For The Night, finished well in front of Legal Weapon in the Warwick bumper mentioned above so there is a bit of collateral form with Forward Thinking for those who like that sort of thing. The fourth horse I would give a chance to in this is Pam Sly's Telescope filly Telepieces who is getting loads of weight and comes from a yard that knows how to win bumpers. Her dam, Actinpieces (also bred by Pam Sly) finished 3rd in a bumper before being quite a prolific novice hurdler and then later a staying chaser. Summary: Espresso Milan to win and a sporting reverse forecast with Telepieces.
Hope you have better luck than my Bumper effort yesterday, which was really dismal. Be a real cracker if this comes up, for sure. Fingers crossed for these two.
I like miss Cynthia 3.20 mr A third place behind trueshan is a decent yard stick if she can clear the hurdles On the drift at the minute so I am probably wrong
Nice performance from the Twister's horse. Fergal's ran OK in second and the only consolation I will take is that I was right about the fav
