he 59-year-old spoke repeatedly of the need to imbue the squad he inherits from Bruce with "confidence". Aware goals are in short supply, he will explore the possibility of recalling Asamoah Gyan, the £13m Ghana striker, from a loan stint with Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates next month. "I've absolutely got to talk to Niall Quinn [Sunderland's international development director] about exactly where we stand on that," he said. "Gyan started off brilliantly here. His position will definitely be looked at." If the lad is prepared to come back then I would have him back in a shot, at the end of the day he might be a money grabbing **** but he is the best striker we have
I think Gyan's position was "looked at" before he even left, just like O'Neill's position was "looked at" two months before Bruce was sacked. It's up to you, Martin. The lad's a class act unless you're a "bit disorganized" - and I don't think you're that. The problem is Al-Ain paid £6 million for a full season's loan. if they hold us to that, it'll have to wait until summer. Welcome back, Asamoah. I've been expecting you.
His heart isn't that far away though, is it? Just this weekend, he tweeted "Good luck to our new manager, Martin O'Neill". He's still got Sunderland very much in his mind and is keeping up with events here.
Let him see out his loan, and keep taking the money.. When the loan is finished, sell him, take the money. Of course this is just my opinion.
I would love to say **** you but look at our goals, or lack of them and ask whoes nose would we be cutting off. If MON can get him scoring and those goals take us to the top ten I'm sure we will forgive.
Sadly I agree with the mag above. It takes 1 minute to write a quick reply on twitter and make everything look well. The fact remains that he showed no heart on the pitch since the turn of the year.
Bent as we know now, was trying to engineer a move away from our great club as soon as any outside interest was made. That was clearly all about money. All supposition about Gyan's reasons for wanting away at the time it happened, none of us know what was happening in the background. Personally till we know the full facts behind it, I would have him back in an instant. Plus I prefer my supposition for him leaving anyway. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/106150-Supposition!
Anybody thinking about having him back NOW must be dumb: i) He cant be fit ii) He`ll be crap for confidence when he doesnt score iii) The pros at the club will love having him back and cant wait to start relying on him iv) If he tries to dance in front of you.....you`ll feel bad....believe me .......All O`Neills doing is managing the situation for maximum monetry gain because hes an asset.....Spot the clue in the text...."He`s absolutely got to talk to Niall Quinn about the situation..........I thought Ellis was Chairman?
Don't want him. He'll only be back on his terms and for how long? A few more decent performances for Ghana and he'll be looking around again. If MON talks to him and thinks it's worth a shout, then fine. But I am not losing sleep over the prospect of his return.
Wouldnt have him back myself. Move on, spend the 6m from the loan on a striker and get whatever extra we can for him in the summer.
Sorry M R didnt mean you! I focussed on the idea !.....I know a lot of people might be thinking along those lines but its too much for me....You know what Im talking about ...To me it would be just like offering to wipe his ar*e after hed just sh*t on you.... Sincere apologies if Ive caused any offence.....D
No offence taken mate. All passion, us like! I understand where all the naysayers are coming from. I saw glimpses of a brilliant player who was then abysmally managed and made to chase lost causes. I would just love to watch him in a structured attack.
Now that Bruce has gone and Gyan is tweeting about SAFC - I don't really know what's happening or what to think. I guess the only people who know the entire reasons are Gyan and Bruce - And I doubt we'll ever get the full story. If he comes back he'll get my support - if he starts banging them in then the whole crowd will love him. If we sell him for silly money to an Arab Emirates team then no problem - as long as O'Neill geets the money to spend
