Just to be clear, neither have I (though I've switched from Buffalo Trace to Canadian Club). I was just talking about armaments - I have always found it ****ing bizarre how much we spend on US-made armaments (the F35 we're buying for our new aircraft carriers, for instance, is basically a stealth version of the Harrier we sold to them 50 years ago), and then they turn around and say we're not spending enough. In effect, this is a protection racket, not a defence strategy. :emoticon-0108-speec

I'll put them on my list for relocation if this all kicks off, I can promise you one thing, if my home is turned to dust, I will not be coming back to claim my x on the spot. <laugh>

Technically Greenland is North America- but is culturally and socially European, so I do agree it should be in the One-Europe. I do think Europe would be better off as one European state, united without borders one government... There is a big advantage to hegemony. It's not going to happen in my lifetime. There's a reason the US, Russia, China get to dominate global discourse and people listen to them. Every time the EU speaks, one member goes behind their back and says the opposite.

Providing you are not also turned into dust

In truth if it did kick of in a Nuclear way there would be nothing left of us or for us, and then in a few million years an existing life form would become top species with the help of a more advanced species as a new experiment

Bit bemused that Trump (or Don Jr, anyway) includes Greenland in their imperial plan because of its geographical proximity to the US compared to Denmark - but forgets that Canada is in between them. The solution? Annex Canada as well.

We live in extraordinary times. I truly expect Emperor Donaldius to rename Musk as Incitatus at some stage and make him a consul.

And with that, I must flee. Nice chatting with you all again. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Oh yeah, why not eh, let's reincarnate ****ing Hitler as a leader while we embark on this journey of a Europe without borders.

You've already got one lunatic running your mammoth federal state, then Putin over in the other corner wanting to bring back the old days of the USSR. ****sake all you need now is call Xi in as a substitute.

People get afraid when you talk about a federal Europe, but to me it makes sense. Like you say, the US, Russia and China are basically federal states with regional diversity and certainly in the case of the US, it’s like a devolved regional govt set up where states are free to make their own laws (to a point) and raise taxes etc.

We see in the UK that a central govt works well when it comes to the big decisions like health, defence, law and order, finances and economy, environment. But the actual nuts and bolts day to day stuff is best when it’s devolved to the regions.

If this was scaled up on an European basis, we would have as much clout on the world stage as the US or China

    Regional diversity <laugh>

I'm sure the Uyghurs might have a say in that, if they were allowed to.

I can't believe you are holding Russia up as an example with the mess Putin has made.

As for America, sometimes you deserve what you get with Trump if that's your rational.

Maybe if we lived in the perfect world, but we don't and if we did we'd probably end up with another Hitler.

I don’t think Europe would be governed on the basis of the communist party or a dictatorship like Putin’s.

The only analogy I’m making is that as a big unified block, it would have as much clout on the world stage as any of those other big players.

But yeah, I agree that if you didn’t get it right you could end up with another wrong un being voted in, especially the way some European countries are drifting to the right on the back of fears about immigrants

History has shown you always get a dictator eventually of some kind, history is littered with them.

You made an analogy based on a bunch of current day lunatics.

Which is why Russia and the current US administration wants to destroy it as a rival, and why they backed Brexit so heavily, and continue to drive as big a wedge as they can.

i think the only person out of them that I don't have a problem with is Xi, but he rarely crosses my bridge in debate.

However, this still can't be ignored...

    • About eleven million Uyghurs—a mostly Muslim, Turkic-speaking ethnic group—live in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.
    • The Chinese government has imprisoned more than one million people since 2017 and subjected those not detained to intense surveillance, religious restrictions, forced labor, and forced sterilizations.
    • The United States determined that China’s actions constitute genocide, while a UN report said they could amount to crimes against humanity.

In fairness to Sucky, he'd be up for it, as long as he can sit in his armchair and fight on his PlayStation...
