We looked tidy, hard working & well organised, but we had literally nothing up front. No goal threat whatsoever. We waited 77 mins before having a shot on target. Better full back opponents saw Ramsey & Small completely nullified as an attacking thread. Berry went completely AWOL until he was hooked. The main disappointment for me was the three “impact players” - the Academy lads Kanu, Campbell & Anderson. All technically poor. Heavy touches, misplaced passes etc. Today was a necessary wake up call of how much work is still needed to improve our squad.
Curbs was interviewed on the pitch at half time about his Birmingham career, and was given a warm ovation from both sets of fans.
Passion that Ridiculous and Mundane do not get when posting their drivel. Ivor was not there as well, a local game to move his 25 stones.
Birmingham have spent good money all over the pitch, and it showed. They brought Alfie May & Lyndon Dykes (full international) off the bench, we brought on Kanu & Anderson Personally I don’t buy this “slowly, slowly, spend peanuts” guff, it’s not only low on real ambition but it’s bloody frustrating when you do come up against a good side, as we saw today. And before the Uber Nerd from ITTV looks in & posts about slating players, I’ll always criticise players in our shirt who who are clearly not good enough- we had 4 today in Kanu, Anderson, Campbell & Berry. They are holding us back and anchoring us in this league.
I thought bringing Anderson and Kanu on was a very strange decision- Jones still doesn’t seem to get the subs right , today showed the lack of quality on our bench and the massive gulf between our tight arse owners and the brummie owners. Hopefully with Scott gone our signings will improve - let’s see where we are after the summer window …………
I take it that today you saw two different atmospheres, two different clubs, two different altogethers.
It seems everyone agrees that Campbell had a stinker, but don't agree about why. Possibly needs a rest, possibly froze, possibly lost confidence against better defenders. Who knows, but there have been games where he's been our only threat, so I hope NJ figures it out.
Bottle job when it mattered, but basically he’s not very good. The Birmingham defence was excellent - they had Godden & Berry on toast, and did a job on Small.
I don't agree with fans who are saying Chuks should have come on. He's been dire the last 3 times he's come on, selfish too, shooting from 40 yards. He's not even the player he was a year ago, and I wouldn't even have him on the bench. If he proves me wrong I'll eat humble pie.
