I'm in Cleethorpes that weekend at Dockfest. The Charlatans are headlining with Ash and Maximo Park also in the bill.
Mental Money for the big gigs these days, im off to see Paul Heaton at Hull Uni , think it cost 27 quid and i will actually be able to see him in person and not on a big screen
i've been to loads of gigs, especially in student days, but there are far fewer acts i'd be bothered with these days. i look at some of the second-mortgage sized gig prices these days and i could buy a lot of that acts' cds/records for that much. most of the gigs i saw were during 1977-1984, giving my age away a bit. i missed a few that, in retrospect, i wish i'd seen. i guess i could get down to the adelph in the future for the odd deserving case, but i don't keep an eye on their upcoming gigs list.
Off to Hull Truck tonight to see Mary & the Hyenas Not a band, but a show about the life of Mary Wollstonecraft who lived in Beverley, with original music by Billy Nomates https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Wollstonecraft
I've booked to go see Incubus with the wife in the O2 in London in April. It's my first arena gig for probably 16+ years. Tickets were £100 each. Pretty sure my last arena gig was under £30 :/ Once you tack on train, hotel and food, we're probably easily looking at £700 for the trip
I really, really wanted to go to that, but just got way too much other stuff going on. So many bands just coming for a one off stop in London, wish Incubus would tour, but I suppose they doubt the demand is there for an arena tour around the country and they probably don’t wanna play smaller venues.
Yeah, I was pretty surprised that was the only show but we had to go for it. Definitely don't think there would be the demand for multiple shows of anything close to that size given that in 20 years they've put out 3 albums that didn't reach the acclaim of their earlier stuff. But a one-off nostalgia show in a big London arena is probably much more preferable to touring a handful of venues which would probably be no bigger than 3000 capacity
Got 3 gigs in 8 days in May. Manic Street Preachers 2nd May in Manchester, Ocean Colour Scene 3rd May at Connexin Live and Supergrass at Rock City in Nottingham 8th May.
Im going Creamfields on the Saturday and Leeds fest on the Sunday in August. **** knows how I’m gonna survive that. If I randomly disappear around that time you’ll know why
I do miss all this **** living overseas, you lucky buggers to at least have the option. Enjoy whatever you manage to get to!
The Sherlocks at Scarborough next weekend to start the year off. Then Stone Temple Pilots tribute in March.
Watched Louie Vega's band, 'Elements Of Life' last Saturday night. Stunning show. The highlight had to be the live version of 'Black Gold Of The Sun', from Nuyorican Soul. Big box ticked.
Not with the Jocelyn Brown vocals presumably? Great cover of a great song. EDIT - Of course not. I didn’t realise it was a different band to the one Jocelyn Brown sang with. Might as well have asked if it was Minnie Riperton!
I was lucky enough to see Nu Yorican Soul play at Phoenix Festival in 1997 with the full line up. Elements of Life is one of the bands I'd love to see but we already had plans last weekend
