What Selles actually said about getting it wrong was really detailed. I can't remember it all but he was saying the specific way we were pressing in certain areas wasn't working. They planned something that they thought would work against Burnley's buildup with the position their full backs take but it went differently in practice. I found it really insightful, it was far more detailed than anything I could pick up on watching the game. People seem to be distilling that down to "we pressed them and we shouldn't have" which is a dramatic oversimplification of what he actually said and it's obviously outcome bias; if we parked the bus we'd probably also have lost and people would've been up in arms at the lack of ambition.
Fair en Fair enough for Selles to talk about the plan not working, and not hang players out to dry with the media but when will he learn that: i) Lewie Coyle hasn't been stopping crosses coming in all season and it hasn't improved under him (with Drameh in the team ,we had 3 successive clean sheets away from home - Coyle comes back in and makes 2 mistakes leading to a goal within 3 minutes) ii) Kamara just doesn't put his heart into defending. I thought Selles handled Kamara's lack of performance v Boro very well, but it doesn't seem to have had a long term impact on him.
As fans we get far too carried with a win or a loss. Win a game and everyone is looking out the best odds for top 6. Lose a game and Selles is naive and we’re doomed to League One. Burnley are a class above and played very well. It was almost going to be impossible to come away with anything. After Sunderland away, I don’t think there’s a single game that I don’t think we can win. I still think we have the players and manager to get enough points to beat the drop.
We were outplayed first half and were better in the second but we still had chances in both. Some of the new recruits haven’t got up to speed yet in either form, fitness or both but need to very quickly now if we’re going to halt the rot at home and start to pull away from the bottom. To be fair to Sellés, he’s still trying to figure out his best starting 11 for each game depending on fitness and opposition but again, he needs to get to grips with it soon.
I do not think we go down But getting carried away as a fan is the whole point Otherwise why even bother
Gavin Whyte? At Derry now I think, would have been a good permanent signing but McCann went for Longman instead, which at the time didn't seem to make sense.
To look on the bright side, this may also be a compliment, as they could have expected to face a different proposition in the second half, and were confident in their ability to see the game out. It might suggest that Parker had nailed their tactics in both halves. Maybe he is coming of age as a manager.
There would almost certainly be an exodus of players, but there would probably be plenty who would stay because other clubs aren't going to want them. Looking at the academy, we have Andy Smith, James Furlong, Jake Leake and Tyrell Sellars-Fleming coming through, as well as Rocco Coyle, Sincere Hall and Jagielka Jnr in terms of prospects. I'm sure we could use a couple of those.
Probably thinking that they wish Charlie Taylor would stop ****ing about and give us an answer to the offer he was sat on for a week
Outcome bias so funny They isolated macca with a flying winger with no support Jesus Christ That’s a huge mistake But no no keep waffling
You're getting mad at people writing opinions again. I can't even tell what you disagree with exactly.
I’m getting mad?? Funny Not mad at all But keep trying It was said on here prior to the game if he plays left back he’ll need support He got none But afterwards selles used a lot of big words and talked extensively Oh ok
OK. I thought his explanation of what he got wrong was interesting, maybe you didn't. That's fine. I thought Anthony getting a lot of the ball in dangerous positions on our left was a team issue rather than just a Macca at left back issue. Maybe you disagree. That's fine too.
