The luck comment was about what would've been an incredibly toxic start to the season being behind closed doors and the surrounding circumstances of that season as a whole.

I'm also not so sure that Hughes, Jones, Crooks, Matazo and so on would be ok going to league 1.

We also don't have a Greaves or KLP to step up either. It would be catastrophic.

Fair enough. I should have said 'in my opinion', perhaps. But I thought the selection was poor and I worry that Puerta is being frozen out just because of the trigger clause. For me, the reason we didn't get a grip on the game was that we failed to play the three players mentioned from the start. I don't think it was tactics.

    Lampard: 1.8ppg
    Neil: 1.38ppg

I thought Neil would have been a good survival appointment and his stats back that up.

Can’t stand Lampard, but he’s done a great job.

    Why can’t you stand lampard?
This seems quite prevalent in here about posters hating ex England internationals
    I don’t get it
    He was a model pro
    Never let England down
He’s had a go at management unlike carragher etc and clearly wants to improve

    why hate him??

Me neither. One or two decent games then 10 where he can't be bothered just isn't acceptable given the money these people are on. He's like a kid who misbehaves, promises to be good, that lasts maybe a day or two and he's back to misbehaving again. After the Leeds game, I thought he'd kick on but he just ends up reverting to these half-baked performances.

ok, but he was still a meaningful contributor? That's like saying Docherty did nowt 'cause he only got 4 assists and Honeyman got 13...

I can't really see Vaughan getting 15 goals in league one. Having someone ready to go from the academy means there's one less gamble you have to make in the transfer window.

Yeah, never got that either. He was never a **** as a player either. Can’t see what people have against him really.

Don't think it's just him, it's when top players retire and seem to get top coaching jobs which they're just not ready for and they subsequently don't do well. People like to take the piss.

I don't really get what your point is there. He said he got it wrong, and he did take action at the time and we got control of things, but the damage was done. Ideally he would get it right from the start every time but that's obviously not realistic.

Lot of talk about McLoughlin. Did he do a lot wrong? Anthony got loads of the ball and in positions to go 1v1 with him but did he deal with it badly? I didn't really think so. I think it's an easy thing to point to because he's not a "natural" left back. I thought the issue was more that they had so much of the ball and pulled us around so much that they were able to get Anthony the ball in space constantly.

Whether he had a good or bad game
Its woeful to be having to use him in that position due to absolutely piss poor recruitment

Im not sure how you could say its a strength

But yes it was also the midfield being **** too

This post reminded me, it was a bit disappointing to see him not start. I can only hope it's fitness related because if it was purely about ability then that's a worry. We need him to be the one to improve our attacking output, which has been our biggest problem all season. For all our recruitment in January, if Kamara and Gelhardt is still the best we've got on the wings at the end of it all then it's a bit of a worry. They both have their merits but seeing that front line on the team sheet doesn't scream goals.

He absolutely has to start on saturday
    We cant be ****ing around

I wonder though if its the defensive side of his game as to why he didnt start?

Or maybe he just needs the rustiness shaken off

i thought he would start last night, i know at a lower level but hes scored 15 goals this season, half the championship was chasing him and we keep him on the bench like we have the luxury of time

To be fair, I do appreciate that he admits when he got it wrong tactically. Unfortunately for us, in our current predicament, he's a young, inexperienced manager still learning and last night he learned the hard way. We can just hope he doesn't make it a regular habit of making mistakes when setting up against certain teams.

I was one of the few who didn't mind Walter but even his attitude of 'my system works, it's the players not carrying it out properly' rubbed me the wrong way. Obviously, Walter wasn't at fault for the atrocious finishing and decision-making in the final third but the short corners and not having anyone back was a disaster and he kept doing it, flailing his arms around on the touchline and not taking some of the blame when it was a tactical decision he made.
