Good Morning. It's Wednesday 12th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds smash four past Hornets Leeds took a significant stride towards automatic promotion with a commanding 4-0 victory over Watford, establishing a five-point cushion ahead of closest rivals Sheffield United and eight point gap with Burnley in third, both of whom play tonight! The Whites are now unbeaten in 14 league games, and haven't conceded since the 3-3 draw at Hull on January 4th. In that time (six games ago), they've scored an impressive 18 goals. They went on a fourteen match unbeaten run at this very time last season, only to fall apart towards the end. Daniel James notched a remarkable nine minutes first half brace, his fifth goal in just seven league games, showcasing his remarkable recent form. He put the Whites ahead on 20 minutes with a calamitous error from Kayembe, who unwittingly set up the Welshman for the opening goal with a blind pass. It didn’t take long for Leeds to capitalize again, with Piroe turning provider for James to slam home from the edge of the area after slicing their defence wide open. The match continued to unfold in Leeds' favour: a deflected effort from Solomon on 35 minutes put any kind of come-back out of Watford's reach. Moments earlier, James came close to scoring his hattrick with an audacious effort from the half-way line, but went narrowly wide. Piroe saved the best to last, capping off a brilliant night for Farke's team. He danced his way through the Watford back-line, before prodding the ball past Selvik after great work from Tanaka. please log in to view this image Solomon/James partnership flourishing Dan James and Manor Solomon have emerged as a dynamic duo this season, showcasing their remarkable synergy on the field. With a combined tally of 17 goals and 13 assists, their partnership is proving to be Leeds strongest assets this season. Their ability to link up seamlessly creates constant threats for opposing defenses, as they exploit spaces and use their pace and technical skills to carve out scoring opportunities. James’s direct running complements Solomon’s crafty dribbling and vision, making them a nightmare for any backline. It also deflects pressure from Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson who are very much confidence players! With less burden applied on the duo, they too have flourished. Leeds have scored 66 goals and been credited with 46 assists in just 32 league games, and have a +47 goal difference, the highest by far in the division. please log in to view this image
These two are in no doubt the starting wingers, rami and gnonto have a task on their hands jockeying them out...and the same for Joseph who now looks way off replacing piroe...are they up for it? there isn't a bigger incentive surely
Morning all. 8 clean sheets in a row and a plus 47 goal difference. Just imagine if we had a proper keeper and manager
Morning all. That was a great performance last night indeed. Solomon and James partnership is awesome! I really wanted James to score that audacious keeper lob from far away for his hatrick! So Sheffield and Burnley have games tonight. I wonder if they will slip up on their banana skins as such!
If, as now seems likely, were in that pl monstrosity next season, I wonder what's the chances of signing Soloman permanently. Terrific player but can't help feeling would demand huge money for him if they were to sell at all
Well we couldn't of asked for anything better could we. Watford said let's play ball but we're left well behind. IM really enjoying it at the moment long may it continue. 14 games to go but now we now adding goals to our creativity.
Appreciate you're fishing Kev, but your love child Meslier made a good save in the first half... waited for the guy's first touch to push him slightly wide, then closed the angle and spread himself well...it was good keeping and a Key point in the game. Well done. Think he only had one other save which was regulation, but did what he had to. Distribution was solid. Let's hope he keeps up the good work, and isn't needed that often. Farke has done a great job, it's not just down to the individual players but how they're deployed on and off the ball. Job far from done yet, particularly after last season.
With a proper keeper we’d be 9 points ahead of Sheffield United and 12 ahead of Burnley, though I accept he has been good in the last few games.
Watford were on top in the closing stages. I think this was partly due to our substitutes not doing the hard yards that our starters did. I watched Joseph and he was 'pressing' but with no intensity. Gnonto doesn't seem to press at all. I might be doing him a disservice but that's what I see. Without the pressure at the back Watford were able to play out more easily. Our starters, as a unit, are really good at putting pressure on defences to in the ball or encourage mistakes.
Afternoon all What's nice, is we picked up points straight after Christmas when not playing our best, at a time when it has been a problem for us in the past, it culminated in a 0-0 with Burnley. We have then kicked on, three big performances and 9 points, we have looked good and hit some proper form at just the right time. Three more big games coming up now but nothing to be scared of, I guarantee rival fans are all talking about second place
