Not feeling massively positive about this tonight. We struggle at home against physical teams who play direct football. We have to trust our style and get a couple of early goals. Having Jobe back will of course improve us. HA'WAY

Sheff Utd have to play Boro, Leeds, Wednesday and Burnley …

    … 1 win 2 draws 1 defeat = 5 points from a possible 12.

Brilliant, fair play to the lad. He has made a great career at Sunderland and will be remembered fondly. I've never said anything about hating anyone so behave. Most of his appearances have been at league 1 and now championship when we have had little money to spend. IMO we now have better options , You think differently, congratulations on having an opinion. Its a forum, not your private chat room.
Why bring Bally into it, another legend of the club, big difference was he played top flight football and was a tough guy and a great leader. Do me a favour, Luke more likely to tickle you and jump on your back than clatter you Bally style.
Lets hope Luke finishes the season well. We let Danny Bathe leave when Sunderland player of the year, lets hope we do not make the same mistake with Ballard.

What I am saying is he is a converted midfielder asked to play CB. League 1 level it was ok.
Against Luton he was exposed as too small in physique for the job and the whole back line were bullied and we lost 2 v 0. He was the Capt. and the leader. We were bullied and lost. Not totally his fault but why persist if he is too small for the role.
Since then we have let Danny Bathe Sunderland player of the year leave and look likely to do the same with Ballard. IMO I think we have better options and would rather see natural CB play at the back. If Luke can win a place playing his natural position, Dan Neil role, then fair play to him.

    HA'WAY THE LADS

    MACKEMS ATTACKEM

Hopefully Jobe is back but we should of beat Watford without him in my opinion.

Watford and Plymouth were 4 points dropped and very disappointing.

Fingers crossed for a winning streak now and some poor results for the top 3.

    Cooooomon.

Into these anti football cockney ****ers tonight. Honestly on par with Boro and Coventry for pure contempt for me. In fact the way their fans associate the word 'style' with how they play football ****s me right off. ****s!

Well, hope I’m wrong but I find myself really pessimistic about tonight after our previous couple of home games, I can’t help but feel that the underlying issue we have had since our prem days in struggling against physical sides will again have an impact tonight, again massively hope I’m wrong, could just be pessimistic because I’m full of that deadly man flu disease all the same like

We had no one fit man. It was a cobbled together back 4 with a right midfield midget at left back. It’s a desperate reference that to make a point. We’re in the championship and he’s been one of our better players but you’re ranting on about next year.

Was that the Luton game where we had no fit defenders and had to play Gooch and Roberts in defence?

Every manager / coach that has come to the club have played 09 at Centre Half, you can bring up where he used to play as many times as you like but 09 is a Centre Half and any team that want to buy him would buy him as a centre half

    A recipe for disaster imo.
Due to injuries, there were " defenders " smaller than O/9 in that second leg ( Roberts and Gooch at full back if I remember ) , and if anybody " lost" that round it was TM., in the first leg , who seemingly thought a single goal lead was enough, that was the recipe for disaster not O/9..

Our only option at Luton was to attack, we didn’t.

You are not showing much love for a player who has featured for all of the managers we've had since we dropped to League One
I can't be arsed to go through your other posts but you certainly seem to have an agenda against LON just from the last few games.

Repeating the same thing after the Boro game
    SM_LON_hater2.JPG
    And again...
    SM_LON_hater3.JPG
Against Plymouth LON lost his man - they missed,
Mepham lost his man and they hit the post (no comment on this)
you are blaming LON's poor header for their goal, even though they had 5 more touches in the box before scoring.
    -really!

The only reason I mentioned Bally was that some people I know slagged him off - even though he was a legend

Why not start a thread instead of derailing the match thread <cheers>

I know we havent been playing great but there appears to an decent size undercurrent of people expecting the worst tonight and how we are going to get bullied, they chance of autos is gone and a load of our players are rubbish.

    Where's my ear defenders?

Surely that's to be expected after our last couple of performances? Should we beat them? Definitely on paper.

Am I confident in beating them? Am I bollocks.

It's not even that we will be bullied etc, it's all down to how we start the game and not necessarily the opposition. This could be 4-0, 0-0 or 1-2 depending on how we perform.

09 is probably our best defender at bringing the ball out and starting attacks.
That's why he is in the team oh and he scores the odd goal
