Last year he was Capt. as he is a big personality around the club and seemed an ideal fit for a young team. He had earned the armband at league 1 level and had kept hold of it. He was main CB in play off semi final v Luton when we couldnt defend a corner and lost 2 nil. Luke can only play CB if the other guy does all the dirty work. You watch tomorrow, We had no Mepham, last year. This year RLB took armband of him because he is no longer automatic selection, but so far Luke has played majority of games. Good luck to him. He has been a loyal servant to the club but IMO he has reached his limit and we have better options. If you think otherwise good luck to you. Luke will not be a regular in top flight if we get promoted. No other top flight team will ever sign him.

I'm sure the bloke behind me will be stood in front of his mirror today practising ready for tonight.

    "****ing ****e"
    "Switch it"
    ****ing embarrassing"
    ****s sake Neil man"
    "Useless 09"

On a serious note, i can't wait for tonight's game, going to be another cold one, but hoping the lads give us all something to cheer about.

No doubt we will all have neck ache from watching the ball coming down from orbit after every Luton attack. HOOF

Eliezer Mayenda is in 'perfect situation' as Sunderland sub

    upload_2025-2-12_7-12-24.jpeg

    https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/24928039.eliezer-mayenda-perfect-situation-sunderland-sub/

IN the last six games Eliezer Mayenda has started, he has scored two goals and come up with three assists - but Regis Le Bris thinks the role of impact substitute is "perfect" for the Sunderland forward as things stand…

"I think the situation is perfect right now," said Sunderland's boss.

"Eli is still in the process of learning. Last season I don't know how many minutes he had but not many. Now he is a very important player for the team, even as a sub.

"In every team who has success you have subs who make a difference. They want to play more minutes, that's fair and it's good ambition but at the same time right now Wilson has been really good from the beginning of the season until now.

"But we also have Eli who can replace Wilson as the No.9 or play as a second striker, and we can produce a new set-up which can unbalance the other team, so it's perfect."

With success has come a fresh challenge for the Black Cats this season, opposition sides setting up to stifle and make life difficult for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Luton are almost certain to head for Wearside tonight with the aim of frustrating the promotion-chasing hosts.

"We have new problems to solve now, it's really clear," said Le Bris.

"I think they know we are good using our wide triangles and often now they try to overload the flanks.

"It means we have to find other solutions. We need to keep our strength but at the same time introduce new layers."

Hopefully if he is on the bench Wilson and co can run Luton ragged for 60mins then get mayenda on, no game this weekend so can afford to empty the tank tonight given the 2 extra days rest

thing is, we are still in with a chance at autos.

    the top have broken away.

we are on MORE points than this time last season,

and as RLB- he is learning about this league as its goes on. Farke, Parker and the sour bastard know this league so they know how to attack it.
this is a young squad, possibly the best squad we have had since the pl days or the championship side under Keane.

after tonight there are 14 games left.
we are still unbeaten this year in the league, for a side that wants to go up, that is what we need to do, drag games out, win ugly, draw ugly.

Unlike other sides in this league, we havent lost a game by more than 1 goal. they have been tight affairs.

tonight could be a huge night

Burnley - Hull =Burnley have played the bost boring football known to all man & womankind. Hull on their day can pull off anything
Blades - Smoggies - SU arent exactly that great, smoggies need a win to keep alive their POs chances, another defeat and Carrick is on tough ground
WBA - Rovers- with Eustace going that will put a spanner in their works for POs spots. Both need to win really to start making a gap between those below them.

Hull and Smoggies wins and we win we close the gap.

We need some help from others but it starts from ourselves. Lutons away from is one of if not the worst in the league. Think they have lost 12 out of 15 games! I really hope we are out of the traps early to kill any sniff of them using their physical, skullduggery based tactics.

Good post mate, believing it’s possible is totally logical because it is possible.

I know the doom mongers have been straight out of the traps saying it’s impossible but that’s clearly nonsense. It was ‘impossible’ to go to Newcastle with di Canio, win 3-0 and avoid relegation wasn’t it?

It's been like election night and a race, in Sunderland, to declare the outcome …

… thankfully the players won’t give up as quickly as some supporters.

It's amazing how many times weve pulled off the seemingly impossible yet people are so quick to give up …

… even on here I’ve seen people confidently post ‘game over’ only for us to come back and win.

Swansea springs to mind, great performance <whistle>

My opinion is that we have two shots at the lottery but only had to buy one ticket.

The next 15 games are a lottery and, after Leeds, I think we're the only top team without a derby or match against each other.

Still, we'd have to win something like half of our games to finish in the top two.

If we fail to win that lottery we go into the rollover and only need to win two games.

I'm saying it now, we'll finish top six so have a great chance of promotion ...

... we have a good manager, good players and our squad is in it's best state of the season imo.

I'm hoping the balls fall for us tonight or it'll be a real kick in them <laugh>

We only need to make up 1 point every three games to catch Sheffield United. That's definitely achievable
    Ha'way the lads
