They are at least 10 years away from ever challenging the top 4 again. Absolutely rotten

The formation Amorim wants to play needs very specific players and he just doesn't have them. I don't understand why he won't just play a system that these players do fit and then the club can overhaul the squad in the summer and get players that do fit his desired system.

Not like they can just throw money at it either, they’ve got a squad full of players no one will want how on earth do you even begin to rebuild that

They're all over defensively. Gaps in midfield, 2 players chasing after either an opposition player or the ball, leaving another player wide open for a pass.

I listened to a Boro podcast at work last night where they were having a go at Carrick for not learning that the set up they have doesn't work and yet he keeps playing it. Amorim is exactly the same. They don't have the players to play 3-4-3 properly yet he will not budge from the formation. I'm all for a manager/coach for sticking to his principles but does that mean he's not that good a coach to change his principles for the good of the team/squad

You might be right. When Liverpool reached the end of their cycle of dominance in 1992/1993 they were always at least a decent cup team.
This Man Utd team, with all the millions and millions spent by the 7 or 8 managers since Ferguson are in real danger of being sucked into a relegation scrap in the next few years. Not this year, but next season? Quite possible

    Oh. they just scored. Still....

    As crazy as this sounds.

I am grateful for L1. It got us KLd/KS who have us in a good position.

this is what Man U. They need to reach rock bottom before rising from the ashes

Rashford on £300k a week who seems to hate football. Then you have Casemiro, Eriksson, Lindelof, Shaw etc etc. Huge money on players who wouldn't get into our side

Was mid typing before they scored but the point stands.

Thought they needed a Klopp type appointment to turn it around but even then Rodgers had done a decent jobs the couple of years before that which gave them a bit of foundations to build on at least. These have next to nothing currently.

That ball in is superb. Absolutely perfect.

VAR would've ruled it out mind.

Completely agree. To me the genuinely great or good managers have that bit of pragmatism that allows them to adapt game on game as well as in game to whatever situation they face. If they want to play a certain way but don't have the players to do it, they'll adapt to get the best out of whatever players they have while gradually modifying things to eventually be able to play how they want. This can mean gradually bringing in new players, juggling formations etc. If you don't and you dogmatically stick to one way of playing and one way only, you'll eventually fail. If you want to play a particular way and don't have the players to play it, but insist on playing it anyway, you'll fail because other managers/teams will work out how to play against you and beat you sooner or later, and do it regularly.

The definition of madness is to do the same thing over and over again and fail each time, but do a new attempt expecting it to work out differently and seeing it fail each is the definition of madness. Some luck and individual brilliance can help cover the cracks, but eventually you'll get caught out.

Right there is why VAR has to stay for offsides at least. Officials just arent good enough to be trusted

I think the linesman has probably forgot VAR wasn't in this game. They rely on it far too much.

They have some very good players but, as Eric Morcambe would say,
