This history/roots of the Old Firm teams is quite interesting. Out of curiosity, when did the bigoted hatred begin?
When the Irish kaffolicks came over and started taking our jobs. Around about 1930 during the depression i think
When they brought the Harland and Wolff shipbuilders to glasgow from NI. According to the Glasgow Encyclopedia , the bigotry did not acquire its virulence until Harland & Wolf opened a shipyard on the Clyde and brought to it a Protestant workforce from Belfast. And since the start the Troubles in Northern Ireland, it has become worse. http://www.jackiekemp.com/sports/369-profit-from-prejudice-ranger-and-celtic
Predictably, you'll get two opposite answers for this - 1929 is usually used as a bit of a starting point. Incidentally, I wasn't claiming that Rangers "stole" their name - quite the opposite. I reckon the rugby team story is very possibly revisionism. It seems an odd name just to pick out of nowhere.
The fish looks like it could absolutely deck that poncey little bloke with the oversized head and Hazel Blears grin.

I saw that joke coming, Pud, but couldn't stop myself reading in time to avoid the pain. Hang your head in shame etc...
