Given a PL team with table placing / pts / GD of T/P/G on match
week W, you cannot make accurate predictions of what T/P/G
will be on match week W + d.

You can make decent predictions of what T/P will be
    at season end for a given G (W = 0 and d = 38) .

There is in fact only one example of a team being relegated from the top English division with a positive goal difference and it is a pretty amazing stat. Man City were relegated in 1937-38 despite being the leading scorers in the league with 80 goals, having conceded 77!

If Spurs finish bottom half as likely and no trophies (which will happen too) then Ange should be gone. Spurs haven’t finished bottom half since 2008 and that was only because of the horrific start Ramos made, Redknapp came in and immediately improved the team and results.

    Momentum? What momentum?

Where we definitely differ is the defence getting tighter. I just can’t see how it happens under the current manager.

As for Danso being an important addition to the squad? Why?

You say glass empty, I say more of a realist. This squad is still lacking experience and definitely quality to compete for trophies.

Powerspurs repeatedly said the club had no money to spend because of stadium covenants.

Yet Spurs signed Danso for £30million <confused>

We didn't sign him for £30m, though - we'll sign him for £30m in the summer

The only out and out fee we paid was the £12m for Kinsky

Well they won the league that year. City also became the first champions to be relegated.

Wow. So many of us Spurs fans really believe we have a right to be in the top half of the table. Even after losing one of the best strikers the country has seen.

    Why?

We are in the middle of a long overdue rebuild, that we finally have some momentum with.

Slowly but surely the money from the shiny new stadium, and the Beyonce gigs etc. is tricking down into the player purchases.
Which team anywhere near us in the league had had more investment in players over the last few windows?

The facilities also go some way to attracting these new young players that are coming in.

Lots of old players have been shifted.

We are finally building a squad with some depth again.

The players are playing for the manager.

Bro, you're a pessimist not a realist. We are currently successfully still competing in three cups. Clubs with more experienced players than ours have been knocked out.

Heck, we've knocked some of them out.

We are amongst the favourites for the Europa League.

We beat Liverpool to give ourselves a fighting chance to enter the final of the league cup.

When was the last time we got to this stage of a European cup, whilst still being in both domestic cups?

    This is progress.

Yep the league form it ****, and cup wins are not guaranteed, but that's how rebuilds work sometimes. Newcastle and Aston Villa had to go down a division to achieve their rebuilds.

    We may not have to.

Danso is important because, hopefully, soon Archie Gray can play in midfield, and we can actually field defenders in defence. You know, instead of the makeshift situation that we have had recently. It's realistic to assume that this will ultimately make our defence a little tighter.

Not a right but the club always finish top half so I wouldn’t say it’s wrong to expect that, especially when all I heard was that Ange’s second season at a club is always a success, not only has this season not been a success but it’s been the worst season for decades.

I’m being realistic, I don’t see Spurs going to Anfield and getting a result and that’s based on history and form. Villa away in the FA Cup is also a tough tie and although not as hard as Liverpool away, I think Spurs lose that too (remember Tamworth game). I also don’t see Spurs winning Europa based on the current campaign. Chance of Galatasary or Sociedad in the last 16 and that could easily be the end of the European dream too

Danso is only one centre back and still unproven in England, plus with the other three still injured then it’s likely Gray will still have to play CB and although I rate him highly, he’s not a CB (look at results)

Toxic positivity is just as bad as being negative if you wanna go that route. It’s borderline delusional.

Conte and Mourinho both had Kane. Ange doesn't yet you still expect him to perform as well in his first or second season as Conte and Mourinho?

It's realistic to expect a dip. We did better last season that I thought we would. The dip has been delayed. Now we have Solanke, which is an improvement.

There was nothing overly positive in what I said.

Just looking at the same facts from a different perspective. It's not toxic positivity to say we are competing in the cups. We are, until we get knocked out.

It's a cup match. Form goes out the window. Proven by the last leg. That's the beauty of the cups.

I'm not saying we're going to win. I didn't make any strong predictions on those. Simply that we are not out yet. Facts. Which means winning is still a possibility.

If Ange and the players were as pessimistic as you, they'd defiantly lose.

I actually think we have more chance of winning the Europa League than the domestic cups, simply because a few more of our players will have recovered before crunch time in that competition.

If anything is toxic, I'd say it's being more pessimistic than the players are more often than not.

    Spurs fans LOVE moaning. lol

It’s normal expect a dip in the second season? How’s that work. Players should be more used to the style and system (if you can even call it that) by now. The dip is because the squad and manager arent good enough.

We’ll agree to disagree, I’ve seen this story play out many a time before so forgive me if the ending feels inevitable.

It's normal to expect a dip after losing Kane, and rebuilding the team.

The dip should have been last season not this season.

The dip started last season and continued into this one. We were out of all cups very early last season. We are in them ALL now.

That is improvement on last season. Facts. Yes, the league form Is poor now, but the rebuild isn't complete.

Who says the dip should only last one season?

How have the team improved from last season? The form has been bad for 14-15 months now. You all know my views on the manager. But some seem to think he will magically turn things around.

We are now in all of the cups. We were in none this time last season. That is an improvement in cup form.

This is as true a statement as saying the league form is worse.

    Facts.

Lots of talk of the Kane 'get-out' clause this summer and Spurs having first dibs... Estimated at around £70m...

Should we bring him back and build around him for a couple of years? Or is he just not the right fit anymore?
Or would he want to return anyway? <laugh>

We have to beat Villa in order to actually improve on last season’s FA Cup performance though. Beat Burnley then lost to City last season, this year we beat Tamworth and now face Villa.
