BUT we won the league that season :)

I would gladly take a 20-0 defeat from my teams local rivals if you offered me the league in return. Who wouldn't?

Never. The league win would be forgotten but the 20-0 would be a record never broken <laugh>

Madness, you would rather avoid defeat against your rivals than win the league, wow.

How could you ever forget a scoreline like that when League wins are for trainspotters using Google.

You'd get another chance to win a league but NEVER post a 20-0 again & erase that record.

It's been equaled once (Cardiff 1 Wolves 9 in Sept. 1955) but never broken.

The difference is that Wolves were flying high and Cardiff were going down in '55. The shock in 1909 is that Newcastle were the high-flyers whilst Sunderland were near the bottom (they were just starting to build the 1912-13 team around Charlie Buchan, but had a long way to go at that point). It was almost unthinkable that we'd even get a point that day.

It was 1-1 at half-time and then the roof fell in! Eight goals in 35 minutes. Unbelievable.

So it was only coal miners who won the league?
    How strange.

Wow, you would forfeit the league for one victory over your local rivals?? I'm not gonna lie, I don't care about you guys that much!

Genuine question here. Does a result that took place more than a century ago, a game where you couldn't name me one scorer or describe any of the goals, and which most football fans have forgotten about, give you the same satisfaction as when, say, you beat us 2-1 in our relegation season?

EDIT: meaning a more recent result which you were actually at...
