Good Morning. It's Thursday 6th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds end Sky Blues run to go five points clear Leeds extended their lead at the top of the Championship to five points with a dominating 2-0 victory at the CBS Arena last night. Having won their previous four games, confidence was Sky High in fat Franks camp; but from the opening whistle, found themselves out of their depths. Last gasp defending, questionable officiating and breathtaking saves from Dovin (between the sticks) may have restricted Leeds to just two goals, but for much of the game, the 'XG' threatened to run amok. The opening goal arrived on 17 minutes, and settled the nerves of the 3000 travelling supporters. The Whites hadn't won in this particular part of the West Midlands for fifteen years, but found themselves ahead when Solomon's delicate through ball carved open the hosts defence, leaving Piroe to drill the ball into the bottom right corner with mechanical precision, for his 13th of the season. Jaiden Bogle doubled their lead nine minutes with a fabulous, albeit fortuitous solo effort! The Leeds full-back weaved his way through a sea of blue from the half-way line, only for the ball to outrun him at the end, and was scooped up by the Coventry City shot-stopper. Inexplicably, the ball popped back out of Dovin's grasp. handing Bogle an easy tap-in and his fourth of the season. Leeds continued to press, with Dan James missing a golden opportunity to add a third goal before the break. The second half saw more chances for Leeds, including a possible penalty when Latibeaudiere assaulted Brenden Aaronson. Coventry did manage a few threats, with Meslier making a crucial save to deny Ellis Simms’s header early in the second half and another impressive stop to keep out Bobby Thomas’s late effort. Leeds have now kept four clean sheets in their last five away league matches, contributing to their 19 clean sheets in total this season. Their +43 goal difference is the best in the football league, and whilst there are 45 points still to play, for can turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend and the arrival of Millwall without having to look behind their backs. please log in to view this image We played the best team in this league Commiserating after the game (with a box of assorted donuts) Frank Lampard conceded defeat graciously stating Leeds are on a 'higher level' and the 'best team in the Championship'. The Whites outclassed his Sky Blues side in every department, leaving their three month unbeaten home run in tatters. "We're not used to losing at the minute, so we have to respond and make sure it doesn't have an effect on all our positive momentum. Does it change our attitude to what we need to do over the next 15 games? No. There's some things we didn't do brilliantly but we have to accept that nights like this can come. And you just have to learn from them. "We've played the best team in this league and they've beaten us. When you play a team like Leeds, you just feel you're up against players used to a higher level. We had Matty Grimes come on and show his quality over the final half hour. And we still have Ephron Mason-Clark and Haji Wright almost ready to return." please log in to view this image
Morning all. Good nights performance all round and a sixth clean sheet for one of the worst keepers in the world according to some. Couple of cracking saves last night again
Morning all. Great performance last night. We are looking stronger every time we play. All that was left was to start winning away. Next few fixtures are key, especially the home ones which I'd expect us to win. Marching all the way back to the premier league! I have to admit though, being the winning team most of the time and not getting spanked week in week out is really enjoyable. lol
again? He did well last night, and whilst i hope he continues to have bugger all to do most weeks, I do hope i get to compliment him again. I will say i think his distribution has improved this season. The way we play, building from the back, that not everyone is a fan of, requires consistent passing and drawing defenders towards him. He's been doing that well and it helps the team's build up play. You see lots of team's keepers struggle with this.
It was nice of Frank to play a high line rather than park the bus. We look damn good when sides let us play. It was interesting how progressive we were considering we went Gruev over Rothwell. It was also pleasing to see us continue to have real urgency throughout the game to look for the third. Annoying to miss sitters and butcher good situations but some of the build up play was outstanding. Full backs bombing forward. Tanaka oozed quality. Solomon looking genuine PL class. Be great if we can make that permanent if we go up. Popped onto a Cov forum to read some comments, most were pretty philosophical, all think we're a cut above anything they've played this season.
most would have reacted quicker, walked across and gathered it comfortably. Meslier, likes to show for the cameras no, seriously, it was a great save - he's always had great saves in him
Should have been 5 could have been 7....if we **** this up from here this time then there's no hope, we are the best team with a far better unit than last season they seem more together...mes actually showed that he is a keeper with the top class, Bogle is becoming a very good signing, Ao is a ridiculous find and the strikers position has been settled piroe is the main striker end of ....lions up next let's have that double trophy
One of the comments from the Cov forum was that we had good individuals last season but look much more of a team this season... think most of us would agree with that. Not everyone is a fan of DF, but the credit for that has to go to Farke and the recruitment team for finding the right cogs in the summer, and to Farke for drilling the team to work as a unit. We pressed all over them yesterday with a real energy, hunting in packs and then looked really threatening in transition. Obviously when we get battered at home to Millwall at the weekend i'll revise my glowing opinion.
Is that the same “some” that criticise Orta for finding players like Meslier, Summerville, Rutter, Raphinia etc or is hindsight knowledge a one way street?
Morning all I guess the Meslier save is going to live in the memory of some longer than it should, a great save but opposition keepers have been pulling off great saves against us all season, it is what they are expected to do from time to time. Great win when it could have been a real banana skin, that was a good Coventry side and we made them look poor, on the back of the 7-0 we have hit some proper form and confidence must be sky high. Must keep the momentum up in the cup against Millwall, we have a strong bench that I am sure we can use
Exclusive....bamford managed to clap hands last night at piroe's opener, apparently he's now only 5 weeks away from gently sitting up
Agree with all of this except we’re in such a good position in the league that I’m really not fussed about the cup. Play the kids and don’t let Millwall kick our players out of the promotion push.
Are you suggesting that 'some': - vehemently defend players/manager/owner that you like, ignore their errors because 'everyone makes them'... the first time they do something ok, big it up, like it's the greatest thing ever. - consistently slag off players/manager/owners that you don't like: highlight any perecieved errors at the first opportunity, demean and discredit any achievements as the very least that could be expected You're probaly right... there's not many like me that remain paragons of objectivity Marcos
His garbage far outweighed his successes and as it was the only job he had to do, he was useless. His choice of managers apart from Bielsa was pathetic. 100s of millions wasted that'll slow our progress for seasons to come. Apart from that, he was a glowing success
