Scoring the most goals doesn’t indicate the best team though. You could win 38 games 1-0 but finish below a team who won 10 games 4-0 but lost the rest.

Wins would be a better indicator in your scenario however scrapping for a draw would be removed which seems harsh on the smaller teams.

Interestingly all cup matches are decided on goal difference though.
    Your scenario is not realistic.
The counter argument to your last point is that it would always be worth trying to score an extra goal whatever the score so there would be much less point in wasting time as you would rarely benefit.

Not necessarily you could win 5 round 10-0 and lose a 2 legged affair 2-1 and still go out

I suspect that he meant 'one-leg cup ties' .

It was a tongue in cheek comment because pretty much every system would give the same result over one or two legs now they have dropped away goals counting double for a drawn tie.

8th is possible without European football next season. Depends on who the manager is though

I prefer to look at points because they’re the most important thing and are determined by results.

Scoring goals is nice but only matters if it means results are good.

So, all we've got to do, is get the rules of league football rewritten completely...and hope that no other clubs catch on and adopt all out attack as a game plan.

    Genius!

    What could go wrong?

By the way, anybody heard from the poster who stated at several points during the window that we wouldn't sign anybody...?

You can win the PL with max pts and a GD of 38.
I suspect the 38 x 90 mins as a whole would not be that entertaining though.

It wouldn’t be but if Spurs win the league then I wouldn’t care how it’s done tbh

    Could win every game 4-3.

    That would be superbly entertaining.

I'd have probably snuffed it 3/4 of the way through the season via a heart attack though.

    Only for the neutral.
Poool supporters had kittens in 2013-14 (and they were doing 2:1 on goals) .

You have completely missed my point.
Points are what determines league position and are undoubtedly the most important measure of success. But goal difference is a better indication of performance level and therefore a better predictor of future results.

    Not necessarily.

Latter-era Wenger's Arsenal were constantly dismissed as classic flat-track bullies. Good enough to tear lesser teams to shreds but always came apart whenever they faced real quality. They notched up some whopping GDs as a result of this (+42, +35, +43 etc.) without winning anything and with AFTV delivering a constant supply of comedy gold.

I fully expect Ange to be the manager next season, and I fully expect the team finish 8th or better, even with European football (I'm fully aware that means we win the Europa League!).

Levy sacking Ange before fully backing Ange would be classic Levy ********. Regardless of what you think of Ange or bad you believe he is as a manager.

Ange has convinced the majority of these new players to even come to the club, some who haven't even arrived yet. You don't sack Ange now if you're Levy and you want to be taken seriously. That would be an absolute waste of the momentum and would likely cause many players to want out.

Obviously, but you can't ignore what scoring goals does for the morale of the team even when results aren't good.

The only point I'm making is that there a clear difference between us and teams around us. Once the defence is tighter and reinforcements in that area are better, which they almost are now, if we continue to score how we've been scoring we will demonstrate a truer representation of or level with the league position.

Danso is a very important addition to the squad. Once Archie Grey moves into midfield and the back four is tighter, Spurs become a very hard team to beat.

I believe the glass is half full. You believe the glass is half empty. I get it.

When I say something is 'better' it doesn't mean it is perfect. There will always be counter-examples.
