Good a time as any to kick off this nonsense. The 49ers wouldn't invest in a new bus let alone players

Tbh, I’m not that surprised they didn’t bring anyone in. However I do think they will have earmarked targets for the end of the season, should we go up.

They can only be criticised if we fail to get promoted, and more of our supposed silver has to be sold. If we get promoted and we bring in PL ready players, that’s fine by me.

Have to agree, no good us complaining that IF we go up nobody is good enough for the PL and then adding to that problem this window.

Southampton rock bottom of the table, Archer not in the squad not alone starting 11 his coach saying he’s trying to adapt to a new style of play, they want £15m for him, it’s just crazy

I hear people say similar about Adam Armstrong. His PL record is terrible. But then he’s playing in a team getting battered every week against top class defenders.

A year ago he scored 24 goals and a stack of assists in the championship.

Draw your own conclusions… if the aim is to get up or stay up, your mileage may vary.

I guess most people would like to do both and that’s where the recruitment challenge and loan v buy gets complicated.

Equally you don’t attract PL players by staying in the championship, as well as the vultures then taking your best. That’s the gamble the club has taken again. Still usually turns out alright for us when we’ve done that in the past <whistle>

Would you have been happy with Archer for £15m

Southampton fans say he’s a lazy player, he doesn’t press and sounds a worse player than Piroe so where would he fit in. Bereton-Diaz Southampton fans say he is the worst player to ever wear the shirt

I don’t look at other team signings and think Damn they’re better than us now

We won’t stay in this division, might as well hand us the title now, even Jesse wouldn’t fail with this squad compared to the rest

I never mentioned Archer but why do we seem incapable of using the loan market (Forest and others did pretty successfully). I admire your optimism (apart from the damming of Piroe with feint praise there) but the slump of last season is still fresh in my mind when we didn’t strengthen again in January. Four teams vying for top two places also gives me a feeling of Deja Vu.

Yup, we have a run of tough fixtures coming up, the wheels could fall off quickly. Leedsy innit.

Must admit I thought we’d bring in a loan or two to freshen up the squad, but you don’t get the PL players for free.

Guess the club don’t wanna spend whatever loan fees and wages if they don’t believe they are needed.

PL teams won’t loan their players without guaranteed game time.
    We can’t give that.
To improve the squad we need to buy better players than we have, we can’t afford prem prices.
We only lost Geldhart who nevers plays.
    Our squad is good enough.
    A good transfer window.

I mentioned Archer because at the end, he seemed the only genuine option. I look at the loans the rest have taken and I still think they’d not get a look in here.

Solomon and James competing with Gnonto and Ramazani. Rothwell and Tanaka competing with Ampadu and Gruev. Rodon and Struijk with Ampadu and Wober as back up.

Defence is the one area I’d have liked someone to come in if available. Ipswich fans and several other teams all complaining they need a new #10 they’re just not out there for the funds we have or the division we are in

But up front we have Piroe, that people regularly complain about as unable to play the Farke system, Joseph who most think isn’t ready and a complete has been that no one is sure when/if he will return. One injury to the first two and we’re incredibly light (god forbid they both get injured at the same time).

We should have kept Joffy to be honest. We can’t really sign someone as a “just in case” they’d have to be bad willing to sit on the bench, then they’d be a passenger when they did play

I like Piroe, he’s a goal scorer, if you see the heat map of him against Cardiff he really did put a shift in
