Anyone else reading the text updates on SAFC.com. http://www.safc.com/news/20111206/live-oneill-press-conference_2256213_2538922 It says on SSN it's coming up soon too. Not a live feed obviously. Edit: Its on SSN now He is saying all the right things and I feel really excited and more sure than ever that we have the right man this time.
Have read it and I'm buzzing! Just so pleased he's our manager. If we can't make it (as a club) with MON here we never will
"Boyhood love of SAFC may give me a few games grace, that wont last, this is a results based game." "Good spirit among players." Nice it came up asking about the boards aspirations rather than the fans.
Don't tell cest he's saying all the right things.. He'll be going on about his bits for the rest of time! looks and sounds good to me. My only nervousness is that he does what he did at Villa but hopefully he won't and things will go well for him at his boyhood club
Low key and fairly anodyne, in other words we have to win a couple of games and it is going to be tough!
You're going to have to explain what happened at Villa to me mate. AS far as I know, the owner was talking about selling players and reneging on promises of players coming in. All just before the start of a new season. MON didn't like it and left, same as any other manager with any self respect would have done. (Who isn't desperate to hang on to their job!) The players were sold after MON left.
Only a few selected extracts but all the main points from MON MO: "Sunderland is a fantastic club!" MO'N: That type of performance on Sunday summed up Sunderland's season so far - it ebbed away a bit and it's something I'm hoping to address to the best of my ability MO'N: The game with Blackburn is a very important game for us - we're all aware of that MO'N: There is frustration around the place but we're going to try and galvanise that MO'N: I feel it's important to start with a clean slate. Everybody gets a chance. It's a genuine privilege to be here MO'N: So energised about being here - it's hard to describe! MO'N: I arrived on Saturday to see the Lads before they went off to Wolves - the weather and the training ground reminded me of Glasgow. It's like when you wake up and open the curtains and don't know if it's June or November - I'm so happy to be back! MO'N: There's an energy about this football club and passion - I'm hoping to take that and give the place a lift SAFC: One member of the press put a question to the new boss about him being lined up as potential England boss - not on his mind whatsoever. This is the job he wants and he's very excited about it. SAFC: Another question about why he didn't join the club back in 2006, O'Neill revealed that despite discussions with Niall Quinn he wasn't in a position to take the job due to personal reasons MO'N: I would love to be really successful at this football club! MO'N: Eric Black kindly took charge on Sunday, but I'll be bringing in Steve Walford and Seamus McDonagh as part of the backroom staff SAFC: Just been told there were just over 70 members of local and national press here, O'Neill is quite a draw. I am very, very happy tonight. Can not wait till Sunday!
He also said he has not discussed transfer budgets with Short at all. Hopefully just keeping our cards close to our chest, ie. Not alerting everyone we have x million to spend (a la Keano)
Honest and realistic comments. I am alreayd optimistic that in time he will turn us around. I just hope that, should we lose to Blackburn, people aren't on his back already (knowing some of our fans...)
SAFC: Another question about why he didn't join the club back in 2006, O'Neill revealed that despite discussions with Niall Quinn he wasn't in a position to take the job due to personal reasons -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This to me is/was a great pity, but personal reasons, obvious as they were at the time were more important than taking over the management of SAFC at this time. Just wondering what could have been, if?
