I agree that Levy should be increasing the wage bill, my concern is that the opportunity to actually do this and strike with top players, post Redknapp era of course, was at its peak when Kane was in the team scoring for fun, and we were in and around the champions league.

The next best time would have been when we had top management in Mourinho or Conte.

All of the money in the world may still not do it at this point. A lot of teams have money now, albeit not as much as us.

The top, top, players simply don't want to come right now. So the idea of building a team of the top youngsters is not the worst idea as they do seem to want to come by comparison. Hopefully we have a few 'Harry Kanes' in the making in our squad. Sprinkle the squad with some experience and muscle so the kids don't get bullied being seen as a soft touch, and we might make it to the promised land of cup glory.

It brings into sharp relief that Levy dropped the ball big-time when he had a front 3 of Kane Son and Bale and Mourinho as manager. Just let Mourinho win the damn trophy so the narrative can change.

I'm happy for the Danso signing. Fans moaning about how we are competing with Wolves for players are suffering from a delusion of grandeur. Others saying that 'no bigger teams were in for him so it's a bad idea' are also delusional. If a bigger team came in, he'd likely be off to them as Tel is probably about to demonstrate.

Levy is damned either way. We could win all three cups and the same people would still be calling for his head.

I find it boring and pointless. Levy ain't leaving until he can sell at a profit. Nobody is buying a project this expensive until there is some serious success on the pitch. Levy will be here for a while regardless of the protests. He needs to back Ange to the hilt as best as is possible until a plum comes out of the pie.

Takes a while for me to get excited about a player but this Archie looks like a top prospect

    takes on responsibility

captain material in about 5 years once he’s moved on imo

There’s no doubt that with all things considered, we need to be purchasing the best young talent we can.
My fear though is that the board will sell the very players that are our only chance of future success. If someone was to offer £100m for gray in the next couple of years, I see a situation where we sell, before buying more youngsters as replacements. And it goes on…

I have no idea if Danso will be any good, but he is right footed, arguably we needed a left footed CB more urgently in the long term, so this may well be a panic signing as some have suggested, or maybe with a view to Romero leaving in the summer. A 5.5 year contract suggests he is seen as a long term acquisition though. I will be surprised if he turns out to be the top quality we need, given that we have stolen him off Wolves, time will tell and I hope he proves me wrong, and hopefully it isn`t Fazio mk2.

There's one out there for Tel, featuring his last 10 strikes on goal.

Suffice to say, none of them ended up in the back of the net.

Don’t you get the feeling that the ownership drags its heels a bit when it comes to doing the right things?

I always get the impression that Levy sees the fanbase as an obstacle, a hinderance, a boil on the arse for what he really desires for THFC

i’m always left with the same kind of feeling every window. We buy a player for pennies at the beginning of the window then we start the procrastinating, the “we tried”, “we are trying” etc etc excuses

Its almost like those running the club think:

“well we have bought someone for you fools, so stfu and get on with it”

then it gets reported back that the fans are still not happy so Levy seems forced to do something about it. So he tells his cronies

“try to find someone on loan to appease the idiots”

We all know the January window isn’t ideal but it’s just a feeling I have most windows tbh. Its the manner of operating that leaves me questioning the hierarchy time after time.

according to my iPhone calendar, it’s Groundhog Day today.
Only a spurs fan can have the feeling of Groundhog Day every other day of the year, but on actual Groundhog Day we actually sign a player <laugh>

    “Hold me closer Kevin Danso”
    “Rhythm is a Danso”
“I bet that you look good on the Danso”

At the very least, Danso’s gonna likely have some solid chanting material.

He’s taken the number 4 shirt too, please be more Alderweireld than Skipp, mate (sorry, Skippy!).

His name came up early in the window alongside Khusanov's

Lens selling Khusanov first likely gives us wiggle room (or, to put it another way, gets Mendes out of the picture)

I hear you. I wish I could say that we often 'buy a player for pennies at the beginning of the window'. It's usually just “we tried”, “we are trying” etc.

I don't really think it's even about the fans though. We already know he's not really listening that deeply to fans. I think what might be happening is that they are genuinely trying to get players in but they are delusional about how attractive the proposition is that they are offering. They go for better targets than the club can actually attract. The one's that end up at Man City.

The positive spin on this is that they are showing ambition.

The reality is that they are a few seasons too late. The reality of what the club can realistically attract is changing and it's becoming obvious.

If we were flying higher in the league and sailing through the cups, then maybe we'd be more attractive.

It's just not the reality right now.

We don't posses the bait to catch the big fish. Kane was the last big piece of bait.

Hopefully Ange can pull this plane up from the nose dive and make a miraculous end to the season.

Aside from being a fan, I'd love to see how all the narratives change if he is successful in any way in this chapter.

Loan with an obligation to buy.

As a few of us have predicted, we currently don't have any money to spend.

Which is why the only permanent deals we were exploring were with clubs who owe us money.

Clearly a Paratici deal, as if a transfer was getting tricky he always structured them that way to get them across the line (i.e. Romero, Kulusevski, Porro)

Matteo Moretto has shed light on the Tomori deal falling through: the entire deal was the work of intermediaries offering him around, even though he had no intention of leaving

So at least in this case it wasn't an example of Spurs not being an appealing proposition, more that we were offered a player who wasn't looking to move
