When the likes of Paddy Power have targeted you to be the butt of all jokes, you know everyone’s laughing at you. https://twitter.com/paddypower/status/1885375519274774747?s=46&t=Fzq-KRkWW1uDkG1TNKnZRQ
When they stop laughing is the time to worry. Even when we were winning stuff (I’ve been around a long time) they would laugh and say we had the richest fans in the league and just dismiss us as just a cup side. Our style of play always lent itself more to cup football then the league and Ange has moved us back in that direction. Finish between 5th and 8th and win the odd cup and most fans were happy. Now ENIC want top 4, for the money, but to insure against that they'll buy young players as investments or try to develop them in the academy. So far ENIC have done well on the money side but have fallen short on cup winning because they tried to employ managers like Mourinho and Conte who promised to deliver both league position and cup. IMO that's unrealistic as an aim with the current way they recruit and pay players. We all know Spurs pay less (poor players only get in the 100's of thousands a week at most) than our major competitors, so we would need to be lucky, very lucky, to produce a league winning side. Having said that, the way we are buying high quality youngsters at the moment could bring on field success IF we hang on to them as they mature. Then ENIC seeing the value of that success in increased sales worldwide COULD, just possibly, be persuaded to tweak their financial strategy.
I was thinking of “another one bites the dust”, but on reflection it could have been “I want to break free” for the fans, and “under pressure” for Levy!
We really do need rid of ENIC & Levy as a matter of paramount urgency, this once great club can not even attract quality players anymore, how do you expect to sign top class players when the wages you offer are considerably less than on offer elsewhere. What with our clown of a chairman flying out to try and convince players to sign, like he is some kind of master negotiator, only to be knocked back by 19 year old`s. The club is a shambles thanks to one man, and all while he continues to rinse a loyal fan base, while having next to zero ambition to build a successful football team. Levy out.
Jean Michel-Aulas on Levy: "We had people speaking all night with Daniel Levy. He talks a lot and goes back on what we’ve agreed in writing. Agreements have not at all been respected. We had email exchanges which have been contradicted, so that’s made it very complicated. It’s difficult. The Tottenham board’s theory is to explain that the economic market is very hard and so we have to get used to renegotiating. It’s been very, very difficult. I’ve got 25 years of experience as a president of a club and it’s our 16th participation in a European competition in a row. But this is very rare in the football world. The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in these 25 years." Fergie on Levy: "Dealing with him more painful than my hip operation" Other fun quotes were the Dinamo Zagreb president saying as part of the Modric deal, Levy negotiated him down and said he would throw in some Spurs jerseys as part of the deal - only to add that to the bill at the end Levy out.
Maybe it wouldn't have hurt so much if they legally approached us for Berbatov at any point that window? DRAIN THE SWAMP STOP THE STEAL That's what you sound like
