Okafor, Embolo and Ferguson fall under the same category: would have been great signings in previous seasons, but not in this one. Something to do with injuries or lack of form, which makes them bodies to throw at a problem rather than a potential solution
Loic Tanzi says that Lange is in Munich Now would be a good time to check if Mathys Tel's image rights aren't owned by literal criminals...
My first estimate of our spending ability was £50m but since it changes by £100m for every £10m change in our EBITDA this year we may have more or less. I would still bet on a loan though.
Ben Jacobs: “Tottenham have a concrete interest in Yoane Wissa, but a deal would be difficult because Brentford do not want to sell”. ————— Like clockwork, lol. Definitely one of those “we tried” signings.
Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Villa are all vying with us for Tel's signature. This will be an interesting test of the club's resolve, ambition and appeal. We're very good at signing players when there is no real competition to do so (Maddison, Solanke, Johnson, Richarlison etc.). But when other big clubs muscle in, we rarely emerge with our prize. I personally think we're strengthening the wrong area of the team, but let's see how this goes.
Just imagining a conversation between Tel and Kane: Mathys: "So, H, your old club wants to sign me. If I accept, will I go on to win trophies?" Harry: please log in to view this image
Imagine if he scored a Europa League winner, and his immediate thought was to text H to say "Wasn't that difficult, was it?"
What is quite amusing about the Tel deal (which has a feeling of being the next Hazard, Aguero, Moutinho, Hulk, Dybala and Martinez tbh) is that Ange has been somewhat bemoaning having to “overplay” teenagers and here we are making our primary target a 19 year old, lol. And to add, I do wonder if Postecoglou has dropped his limiting guidelines for potential signings too because by all accounts it doesn’t sound like Tel’s desperate to join Tottenham and is instead wanting out of Bayern and likely open to all offers, picking the best one. 99.9% of footballers are mercenaries, they want the best deal possible. Time the manager and club accept as such.
Plettenberk says we're negotiating with Bayern Please tell me that Paratici has snuck into the negotiating room to get us another eighteen month loan with an obligation
...sticking with Plettentwerp, he claims we're looking at Stefanos Tzimas who is currently on loan at Nurmberg from PAOK, although Brighton are reportedly in a better negotiating position, with Nurnburg waiting to trigger the option to make the loan permanent before listening to bids of €25m Honestly looks a smart investment if we do manage it: presses defenders like a madman, but can hold onto the ball and is also pretty quick, and his goal return's pretty good with 10 in 16...in the German second tier
Reports are he would prefer United or Arsenal. Both offer higher wages and more game time, while the latter more or less guarantees CL football. It is an interesting one as you say because while he's miles further down the road than a typical 19 year old, we'd be looking at £55m either now or when the obligation kicks in spent on another player who very simply isn't 'there' yet. If he was, I doubt Bayern would be happy to sell him. It's pretty clear that we aren't interested in signing players for manager. We're signing them for the club. As much as Ange wants players who are fully invested in playing for Spurs, the reality is that most of the young players we've bought recently will see us as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
If we get it across the line, I'd imagine Tel will be seen as the long-term successor to Son. I doubt we'd be spending so much otherwise. I can also see the latter either leaving the club in the summer, or playing a reduced role in his final season. Intrigued to see where this will leave Mikey Moore.
The club needs defensive reinforcements, why are they obsessed with signing winger after winger? Scoring goals isn’t the problem, conceding them is.
