There are people who should never have been released from prison, murderers and terrorists. And there are people in the Israeli defence force and Govt who should also be behind bars. I guess there's never going to be any real justice for the crimes committed from both sides.
This 'war' has shown that Israel can't destroy Hamas, because all the while there is no solution to Palestinian statehood and repression of Palestinian people, there will always be a faction that will take up arms against them. You also have to remember that while Hamas has an armed militia, it's also a democratically elected governing body that is responsible for health, infrastructure, roads, transport, education, social services etc. I think the only way to broker a long term peace deal is to get round the table with Hamas like the UK govt did with Sinn Fein. The armed wing of Hamas Al Qassam brigade, like the IRA need to be assured that they can give up their arms in return for autonomy in their own land. A power sharing organisation between Hamas and Fatah, or a new Palestinian authority in the first steps. Then working with Israel and international brokers towards a Palestinian State.
