...it doesn't mean he is staying.

Carroll had a 5 year deal. It just means the fat man will get more money when he flogs him!

Sorry to be a downer but this isn't necessarily a good thing, just more money for the fat man!

I understand why people think he could still leave in the summer, but I think this new contract can only really be a good thing, hes signed for 6.5 years which means HE the player himself is happy to be here and doesnt want to go anywhere else, his agent would have already told him that it would be easier to go to another club if he kept his current deal. Signing a new one would make it harder for him to leave so I think in Tiote's eyes he doesnt want to go, and even that itself could go a long way to keeping him.

The fact that Tiote is happy to sign a contract like that is a great indication of how he feels. he loves the club and the fans, and if we were to sell him it would be for another huge amount of cash.

I knew there'd be articles like this. Cant we just be happy? If Ashley wanted to sell him, then a 3 year contract (which he would have had remaining in summer) is still long enough to demand a high price and if Tiote wanted to leave this would just make it more difficult.

Exactly, can't force a player out, despite what AC says.

Spot on! Tiote's agent would have advised him that he could use the reduced purchase price for having a small amount of time left on his contract to negotiate a higher salary from any new club. Therefore you have to conclude that Tiote himself wants to stay at the club. Good man!

Plus, even IF he does go (another desperation deadline day signing ala Carroll) then they will have to pay at least as much as his contract is worth IMO - so that's £17.5m...If he went it'd be for in the 20's!

But I don't think he will leave now...We've got another 2-3 years with him at least, and even then he'll still be on a 3-4 year contract which they'll have to buy out...EITHER WAY it's great news for the club!

He's on 50k a week now - which must be the top of the clubs wage cap. I can't see MA increasing his wages just to sell him in the summer. Remember, the mans a tight arse!

And if he does decide he wants to go, then he can sod off in exchange for a big shiny transfer fee. I'd like to think it won't happen as I'd like to believe he has a bit more character than a certain individual, but either way todays news is a good thing however you want to look at it.

As I posted on old 606 earlier, its actually quite nice to have 'bigger' teams linked to our players anyway, means we've actually got good players rather than aging castoffs from those bigger clubs.

At first I thought Carroll was forced out, but after seeing that smug look on his face and hearing Pardew talk about how they had rejected the offers... well, let's just say I'm now convinced that he left purely because he's a money grabbing twat.

This 6.5 year contract can only ever be a good thing. Personally, I don't think that Tiote will leave at all. Let's at least hope so.

My gut feeling is we will keep him for AT LEAST one more season, then depending how player recruitment goes from now till then (as well as our form obviously), then he could stay alot longer.
This contract protects the club basically, and puts off potential suitors as they know they have to stump up BIG money if they want to sign him.
Win Win for me

Fair play if you want to say "if we sell him, it's money for the club" but it's not really is it.

There's no chance we would see that money.

Also, in regards to him showing how much he wants to stay here by signing this contract.. that's great but what if Man U or Arsenal came calling?

I love the dude, but he has no reason to be loyal to us if a huge club come in for him. For example, If I was playing for Villa and Arsenal came in for me i'd leave at the drop of a hat, you'd be silly not to.

I hope i'm wrong but you all need to remember, we don't have a normal owner and we're not a normal club, lol

great work from pards and ahem to get him to sign a new contract after half a season he must be determined to do well for the club and pus us forward i say build around him from now on!!

In that regard we're exactly a normal club. If Man U or Arsenal go for a player at anywhere below 5th the odds are that they'll get them, show me a club in the league who wouldn't have taken £35m for Carroll. Whether we see the Carroll money remains to be seen, but if any of it has gone on securing higher wages to keep Tiote its a start.

I hate to say this but when Ashley gets money from a deal we all hate him, but the club owes him over 100 million and he has to take it back somehow, without that we'd be in administration or even liquidation. Just to be clear I'm not by any means saying we sell Tiote or any top player for that matter, but if he doesnt want to give us every penny of the money from a sale he has to get his loan back somehow, all the while paying wages which are probably in the top ten highest in the country.
