Quality over quantity every time, and not just purely footballing ability either. I know it’s cliche and the FSG questioners hate it but ‘the right player’ isn’t just a throwaway comment, it genuinely has meaning and is why we don’t have all the typical scandal with our players being out all night on the piss, bust ups in house and the more serious scenarios with rape and wife beating, adultery etc.

The strategy is working just fine and people need to relax a little and enjoy the season.

And people wonder why gay players don't want to come out.

    This isn't funny.

People are allowed to find fun in whatever they choose. Sometimes that means it's distasteful or offensive. I'm not advocating for people to be either of those, I'd far rather they weren't but the minute you try and put steps in place to stop what is essentially free speech, you're getting closer to "1984" and that's quite scary. Next thing you know there's a list of things or certain groups that we're not allowed to poke fun at. Is that really what we want as a society.

People are free to do what they like, but must not manipulate other to do it.I remember in the early 80s when being a gay cannot be spoken of. I was working very close to Vauxhall tube station, I usually close late. This man usually come near to where I was working, not knowing that he was interested in me.I told him off and he was very disappointed. That time no one was bold enough to admit that he is gay.

We've moved on as a society in our acceptance as normal things which used to be frowned upon, or worse, criminalised. These days, generally, people don't need to hide their sexuality, although in some sports including football, it's very different. My previous comment wasn't about some people feeling that they still had to hide their sexuality (or anything else) for fear of ridicule. It was simply about not deciding what is or isn't up for making fun of. As I said, I'd far rather people weren't disrespectful or distasteful or offensive but atm at least (goodness knows what Starmer will turn to next), we are allowed to make fun of whatever we choose to.

I have no interest in cancelling anyone or telling anyone else that they can't say or post anything, but I absolutely have the right to say what I think isn't funny and to point out why sections of society are afraid to be their completely legal selves for fear of persecution.

    Criticism isn't cancellation.

I agree with all of that, but there is also a case for good-natured piss taking in lots of cases. I still get jokes about me being a Scouser, and I can tell straight away if it's a bit of fun or more sinister.
I'm sure the ref in the video (is it even genuine? I've not looked closely) is just playing up to the stereotype. I know plenty of gay people and only one ever acted remotely that way, and he was definitely putting it on. All the others are openly gay, so they're not hiding anything, but they act the same way as straight people generally.
I don't want to see a time when I can neither give nor take a bit of banter without causing or taking offence, I think we just need to be careful to make it the right circumstances to be acceptable.

Being a Scouser have something with dialet I believe. Even poor me, when some of my friends want to take a meeky of me they call me "Scouser". When Carragher speaks I struggle to understand half of what is saying .Being gay is a matter of choice, being a Scouser is not.

That was the spirit in which it was posted, but if it offends one person on here, take it down. I don't want to parade my gay ally credentials on here, but apart from the fact I have gay family members, neighbours, workmates, I should also add that my daughter's godfather is gay and a lifelong friend. But I realise this is getting into 'some of my best friends are black/Jewish/Muslin' territory that Bernard Manning and suchlike used as a defence.

Take it down, but I will still make the point (with better examples) that I think Coote is a **** and the deployment of his sexuality is a smokescreen to obtain deflection from the charges he should still face from both the FA and the NCA (and so should the PGMOL) . This brazen attempt at victimhood deserves ridicule, and I will continue to do so whilst trying to make it clear that I'm not ridiculing homosexuality per se.

I will now take a break from Coote. But not FSG...

I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. You have a right to disagree with whatever you like and express your thoughts just like everyone else. That's what I was doing as well. Not sure where cancellation comes into it.
