I see that tiresome bellend invertthewing is saying there should be a mass walkout in the 17th minute of the Man Utd game...before returning to their seats at half time This might carry some weight if not for the fact that a.) Did I mention they're a tiresome bellend? b.) Based on their posts, they're a Chelsea fan (so, see a)
If that were true, then why was there more hype for the loan signing of Bale and free transfer of Perisic than there was for the £60m signing of Richarlison or £50m signing of Johnson?
Because of who they are, one returning club legend and a player who’s pretty much done everything in the game. Those are different to signing someone we won’t necessarily have heard of from one of the smaller leagues for a low price even though they may be an amazing player. The negativity is there from day one.
So like when we signed Alli or Dier? Or when we signed Bergvall and Gray? Because I only remember fans being pretty buzzing at those. Social media was awash with Spurs fans giving it to Barca fans when we signed Bergvall.
Archie gray cost £40mill though. My point is though that people look at the scouting network of the likes of Brighton and the players they bring in or see the bargains Forest and Bournemouth have found and say that’s what we should be like but you can bet social media would have a meltdown if we sign an unknown Ecuadorean for a few million pounds. This isn’t necessarily aimed at people on here as there is always a decent and valid discussion with reasonable people but the wider of world of social media would be off the chart whinging.
Dele cost £5m, Dier cost £4m, Bergvall cost circa £11m (iirc) and there was as much excitement over those than there was in Gray’s £40m price tag. Fans are only overly critical when we target known average players. See Werner and Richarlison as prime examples for instant negative reactions and one of those cost us £60m, so it’s not really accurate to suggest that fans just want shiny expensive players.
The main issue is that everything he does seems to be highly reactive - Rushing Romero and Mickey Van back into the team for Chelsea, which worked beautifully... - Some particularly arsey post-match interviews, including at least one where he looked ready to lamp the interviewer - Stomping back out of the tunnel to glare at one fan giving him **** All it does is betray a lack of confidence
I don’t even think it was particularly personal, more like ‘you’re taking us down’ or something like that. Wish he would show that much passion on the sidelines. I can never even understand why he even bothers standing up. I guess he’s here to stay now though for the foreseeable so let’s hope his belief that things will get better when players come back (despite us still losing at least one player a week) and that when they are back, they stay back comes true.
You know my thoughts on him as a manager and a person from day one. I’m not massively surprised people have turned on him and the way he’s acting in interviews and with fans just shows a man who’s out of his depth and with no ideas on how to fix it.
Yeah if it was personal abuse then by all means do an Eric Dier but being slated for results and the league position should be expected.
The comparatively low wages to income ratio is for a reason. The more you look into it, the more you think Spurs is just a cash cow for ENIC and those who facilitate it for them. Great businessmen, but the financial growth at Spurs hasn’t resulted in investment in the team you might expect.
