What would you prefer if it could only be one of the following? Either finish 4th, win the Carling Cup or win the FA Cup? I think we are capable of them all and more, but what would you like? What do you think is most important and why?
Although a cup would be great, I would love to see us get CL football again. After all...finishing 5th/6th has the same reward as winning a Cup...Europa League.
Win the FA Cup! I'd rather us take another year building, another year for Carroll and our other youngsters to develop before going back in to the CL. We need sustained CL football and for that we need to build on solid foundations. taking 4th this season at the expense of trophies wont help us over 3-4 years. A trophy this seaons (Pref. the FA Cup) will give the buys a taste for winning
I understand the importance of 4th place but just find it difficult to cheer my team to 4th other than the FA Cup.
Agreed! Players and fans don't tell their grandkids about the time they made 4th place.. On the other hand i'll tell my grandkids about Steven Gerrards amazing last minute goal against West Ham in '06

The problem is the financial implications of finishing outside of 4th and the fact that we may not attract a certain type of player. I don't like to think about the money side of things, that has little to do with me and Suarez came to us without CL footy. I imagine Henry will want 4th to regain some of his outlay. We would also have more to spend if we finished 4th. But I can't imagine me bringing out the bubbly for 4th but certainly would for an FA Cup win. It's not a clear cut choice at all, football has changed and money rules but I still think back to the trophies we have won and the feeling I have when we win.
FA CUP > 4TH PLACE > CARLING at the moment. an FA cup win will motivate the squad for 19th league win next season without the burden of CL. who said we cannot win the league next year?!
I think that's right. I was there that day and you have to remember how important a day out like that is for fans who have followed the club for decades. Of course I would love to be back in the CL (and I found the Europa/Thursday Cup, frankly, depressing), but my preference is that we get into that mode )of regular CL football) once we know we can sustain it - see Spurs for details. I know it sounds like heresy, but we HAVE to build for the long-term. That's the legacy. That's 'the Liverpool Way.' GKRK
Not just that but our better players may start getting itchy feet. All top players want CL football. I'd personally prefer 4th or better - but as others have said cups are an event the fans can truly get behind.
I'm sorry to say it guys but I'd be very suprised if you guys managed 4th, you seem to play well against the top sides, but you continually fail to get the 3 points in the fixtures you should win, Norwich and Swansea at home for example. I said before the season that Spurs would be the dark horses, and I see them finishing, at the very least 3rd. I think it will be between you guys, Chelsea and Arsenal for that final spot, and I think Chelseas ability to grind out results, will get them over the line
The thing is, we play well against the top sides AND the lesser teams. For some reason we just don't put the ball in the back of the net in games we should win. Baffles me.
