Surprisingly not. Young people do go but it’s a mixture of all ages.

I’ve been up in the North of the island before. It was a quiet secluded hotel that was full of families and it was about a 200 euro taxi ride into San Antonio (party area). Didn’t bother and just had a relaxing time out there.

Watching the women's downhill earlier, the best week of the year is only five weeks away.

Off to Italy this year, into the Aosta area and a place called La Thuile. Usually drive down but this a bit too far for me to be on the road that long, so flying. It's the transfer I dread. 2.5 hours from Geneva, through the Mont Blanc tunnel which can be a bit of a jam apparently. Never done it, so don't know.

When there though, looks bloody amazing. Italian food & drink too, with prices to match.

    <cheers>

We did the mont blanc tunnel this summer, got there at 7.30 am, still had to queue for 45 minutes to get through, one day we were driving into Chamonix about 10.30 and we passed a sign that said minimum time to get through was 5 hrs, moral of the story get there early and pre book it.

Aosta was very nice, everything was about 40/50% cheaper than it was in France, although parking wasn't the best, we found somewhere about a 15 minute walk into town for about 5 euro for the day but not much any closer. Would imagine it's almost a completely different place from summer to winter, the drive back to France, the views are spectacular.

You probably know but just incase, check with your hire car company that the vehicle has all season or winter tyres on it, it's the law to drive around the French Alps, with them on your vehicle from November to end of March. Also some roads you are required to have snow chains aswell, not sure what the law is on that but fairly certain it's a requirement to have to carry them.

I've got a transfer booked, from Geneva.

Going up to La Thuile for a week. Got loads of decent snow so far, so hoping there's no weird February mild spell.

Binned off Italy Road Trip because of a family members 50th in Ibiza so had to cut back on costs to go in 2 holidays. Booked a hotel in Corfu that looks the business though.

Not familiar - done Messonghi in the South, Roda in the North, Corfu Town and Pelaeokasritsa (sp) ...

Depending on how long you are there for, and if you want to break it up a bit, take the ferry from Corfu Town to Parga on the mainland (directly opposite) - best place (most beautiful) I've ever been to in Greece including the islands - might be a couple of hours on the ferry - probs quicker these days...

Parga is in the Epirus, steeped in legend - it has a Venetian castle on a promontory overlooking the town and harbour on one side and a mile long white sand beach on the other - you can take a trip up to, the source of the Acheron - the River Styx of legend (be warned it's fookin freezing at the source if you go for a swim there but the water is so pure) and also see the Necomantium where ancient Greeks went to speak to the dead ... if you are into that sort of stuff..

Has anybody here been to Japan ?

I want to take my daughter there. It won't be for 2-3 years at least as I'll need to save up

But just wanted to get the low down on prices, places to visit, tips etc and start getting some ideas to make a plan

Does anybody know if there's a camper van culture in Japan ? I'd probs rent one and do it that way to keep accommodation costs down.

I've heard Japan is expensive. I don't know if they are into house swapping, but I'll look into that too.

Have done that a few times in US and Canada, amazing cheap way to travel.

Cancelled my Slovenia trip. Money a bit tight and don't wanna do it half arsed / skint myself the rest of the year.

Thinking of doing the Baltics in autumn instead.
