Only just noticed this is on. For anyone interested it's a docu about the ferocious Benn v McClellan fight which took place in 1995. About to start on ITV1 + ( Sky ch 131).
I'll watch it now in a bit. Watch how low Benn dips in the first and second round. I thought it was madness at the time.
More brutal than the Ali v Frazier fight imo, i remember watching it in '95 and couldn't believe what i was witnessing, very emotional, to see McClennan like that, and Benn in tears.
I am saying this before watching it, so forgive me. It is difficult to feel sympathy for McClellan because he was an arsehole. Not that he deserved it, but he was an arse. Amazing fight.
Yeah, I remember watching it live (on tv) and thought, Benn is going to get killed here.... Amazing fight with the obvious tragic consequences. It demonstrated the best and worst aspects of the sport eh ?
That is the first fight I remember. I looked in to when it was shown by ITV. It wasn't live and it wasn't the middle of the night.....the memory plays tricks.
I have a book in the house about Roberto Duran and it makes me sick.He fought for some of the biggest purses ever, and his last fight was for $500 in a parking lot.Hang your head in shame KING.................................
Yeah, there was some classic fights back then, i always thought Mugabi was the poorer fighter out of all those great middleweights/welterweights of that time.
