The problem is the revenue's haven't grown as much as the club would have liked. In the last 3 years in addition to large amounts spent on transfers, the wage bill has grown by a huge amount. With a turnover of less than £200m in the last accounts, £100k+ a week to (players not in IST XI) Matt Targett, Lloyd Kelly, Kieran Trippier, Harvey Barnes, equates to over 10% of clubs turnover. Add in players like Haydon, Lewis etc who don't even train with first team and you can start to see where the issues are.
Need some of these lads off the wage bill asap. I still think signing Barnes was just a huge waste of time and resources
It wasn't aimed at you specifically but you have turned into the stereotypical poster boy for the southern media's deluded mags agenda.
Well that’s a shame. Because I bloody hate that southern media crap. We are that little club from the North East that is still to be awakened. This FFP crap is starting to get on my nerves because all it is doing is restricting us and other clubs who want to challenge. It’s extremely frustrating. I can’t believe we are not selling some of the complete dross we have still on the books. But our commercial growth has seriously stinted. And I wonder whether that’s because of the PL?
I'm on about the sales pitch that would be required for sponsors. If you look at what they could do both inside and outside the concourses of a new stadium they could have food outlets and bars galore around the ground. Bit of an easier sales pitch to the likes of Greggs, Burger King etc if its a brand new ground than a revamped SJP. A stadium naming rites deal that is normally 10 years, same with training ground, kit etc.
I'm shocked they haven't renames the stadium yet, but I think they know it might cause major complaints. Our owners are extremely conscious about PR and media responses
They could consult the fans. Say it brings in an extra 30m a year. And it stays as St James Park sponsored by “tampax” would people be ok with it.?
There's very possibly a case being built in the background for all we know. It just isn't necessarily anything they can or should share. The bottom line is that so far this takeover is going very well and we're not even at the lower end of a 5 to 10 year advisory. Perhaps they add to this side quite heavily in the next 2 years and we're fighting for titles...nobody would care about January 2025 then.
I know this is petty, but I bet if Nwaneri played for Fulham, this kind of statement on the BBC would never have been made:
Arsenal had a man sent off again. Might as well give Liverpool the rest of the season off. B'mth destroying Forest. 3-0 now.
