Suicidal empathy and British politeness will see us do nothing!!!!

I am genuinely exploring options to leave the UK.

Every aspect of the country that contributes to quality of life is going down the ****ter.

Mass illegal and legal migration are the main reason, no one wants to say it but its true. Our infrastructure has just not been able to cope with the sudden rise, and even if we accepted it might take decades to catch up. And the figures are out there, they are a net drain (and im not talking about the Polish either).

If other arrivals were more like the Poles it would be a good thing.

I seem to remember Poles being demonized in some quarters when they first started coming 20 years ago. I wonder if some of today's immigrants could settle, work, start businesses etc if they were given status?

Some are still missing the overriding point about my post , the arguments over some pretty petty topics pale into significance when compared to the actual events ,crimes perpetrated under a religious based ideology that does not fit with this country and ‘our’ values . The ones who are quiet now are the ones who have been so vociferous in the past on here about gender , equality , race etc for minor instances - but they big themselves up as people who ‘ call it out’ call a spade a spade etc yet fail to comment on or discuss a major social issue detrimental to this country and the honest everyday working people of this country - who respect others , pay their share and do right .
Whilst ‘we’ in this country try to be holier than thou and follow ‘our’ laws and be fair and reasonable we undermine our lives by allowing cultures to corrupt our world and the apologists and do gooders , whilst well meaning have no idea of the harm ‘ accepting this is doing .
Please go away forget the petty squabbles and get really effin angry about serious issues . I’ve got two grandkids who are growing up in a mean over complicated environment where everyone is offended , yet sits and watch their towns and cities deteriorate before their eyes ‘ oh well ‘ isn’t good enough!!
To summarise cultures do not mix .

    From that article:

“Most arrived on work, education or visitor visas and overstayed”.

Why do these people pose more of a threat than general criminals who are here legally but we aren’t aware of? I agree that they shouldn’t be here if they’re violating the terms of their visa, but I have a feeling that’s not the group (even though it’s the vast majority) people are referring to.

I know it’s a nationalist’s wet dream to have closed borders and to turn away refugees, but that isn’t who we are as a country. We don’t want to copy America, we’re better than them.

Treating burnt toast like it’s a forest fire helps nobody.

If only there was some way workers from the continent could come here trouble free, start businesses, pay into the economy and so on.

Some kind of financially beneficial collective agreement with European countries in place to allow our workers to move and theirs to come in the opposite direction.

I’m sure we can think of something.

Yes. If it stops chancers ant those with no intention of working like the previous scheme did. Though car washes, like my local ones, did well out of exploiting people.

Absolutely fine IF it were WORKERS to fill identified gaps. The trouble is, what I guess you are alluding to wasn't that at all, and would never work in that way. At least that much is finally now recognised and systems are being put in place to allow movement in based on need (ours not theirs).

Poles have always known as hard working and able to withstand hardships. No country suffered more, in WW2 than them and then under Soviet oppression. Look at the way they have built the country up from a dull place to a thriving one in the thirty odd years since throwing off the Soviet oppressors and their henchmen.

About 10 us were in a pub in Swindon the year it came out when a load of their lads came in. Someone, I don’t know if it was one of theirs or one of ours put Man Of The World on, Then the B side came on. A cut the atmosphere with a knife moment.<laugh>

Yep, and I didn't comment on the demographics.
1 in 12 (*) have no right nor reason to be here. Many, irrespective of where they came from (South America, Vietnam, Africa, ME, Albania, wherever) will be in the dark economy, exploiting or being exploited, or much worse.
But that's all ok is it?
(* as commented in the article, likely a fair bit more than 1 in 12 for the exact reason you raise - that 'the majority' of these known cases are from overstayed work, education, or visitor visas. Btw, have you seen the documentaries about for example the education visa scams - who have been abusing them, the impact on our society & country, etc?).
Very few are saying anything about wanting 'closed borders', but there needs to be control, common sense, etc. At the moment it's totally out of control.
Nothing much I can add to Springtiger's post.

Not clever enough to tie someone with a brush.

I like all the Polish people I have come across.

The point was not everybody given the chance to come here would approach it the way the Poles did.

The Rezillos did a (vastly inferior) cover of it on their debut album in the mid 1970s.
