I thought the benfica bairns looked much bigger and powerful than our kids. Very athletic also. Good test and we did well to beat them
Wouldn’t call any of them s hite to be honest. People have short memories of what we had before these young lads or they are just trying to sound clever?
Yup certain posters on here have written him off and moaned about the length of his contract. He could turn out a great option. He looked a class above last night.
Dunno how good whoscored data is, but he's got the 8th highest number of shots on target and the lowest number of shots off target of all strikers in the league. At the very least he's making keepers save, which is a good sign!
Their B team is their u21s, there isnt 2 different things. We played against the side that play in the second division of portugal and are 2nd.
That’s who we played last night they had a us international and a player that cost millions of pounds in that team
I'm not sure where that rumour has started - but im pretty sure that wasnt the case, hopefully can correct me if im wrong and let me know who but i dont think there was.
https://uk.soccerway.com/matches/20...-cup/sunderland-under-21/benfica-u21/4506707/ Average age of their starting line up last night was exactly 20. They did have a single 18 year old starting but also two 22 year olds. Interestingly our starting line up had an average age of exactly 20 also. Poveda at 24 is our old head but we also had three 18 year olds (Bell, J. Jones, Ogunsuyi).
Fair enough.. they have a league fixture at the weekend though so surely they’ve not brought their first team to play against our kids in a nothing game? Looked absolutely dreadful from the half hour of the second half I watched
Those lads who played last night are regular starters for the B team, I can see why you'd think otherwise but I thought they were pretty well drilled and capable playing out from the back. Their centre half cost a couple million quid and had started first team games in Ligue Un. Made a couple changes in the 2nd half to bring on some of their younger players (as did we) but against a strong side from them we did very well in the first half.
I always thought they had 3 squads tbf. Main, B and U21! Maybe just grouped the B and U21 as one big group now? I must’ve missed the action and tuned in for the boring half hour
Fair enough, think most of them were just from the academy all the way or from low league portuguese sides for <£1m. Lenny Lacroix is the most expensive i believe, wonder where roker report pulled that from
Most of their league games are kinda nothing games as well - they can't get promoted and the standard in that league isn't great Probably good for them to play against a team in a different country with a different style of play
