I would love us to rip some team apart one day...but as I also said pre match will settle for a 1-0 win.... At this stage of the season i'm not sure the performance is key to what we want or need...the 3 points is all that matters. we played against a side desperate to stay in this division and in the 2nd half half they showed some fight, but we showed some grit and came away with 3 valuable points....We carry on like this, makes for an interesting end to the season.

At every match we assess what is going right and what is goiung wrong and who is playibg well and who is struggling. Rigg could not hold onto the ball last night and it was causing a big problem when they got on top. He hasn't been at his best recently and I think that he needs a rest. I am about as positive fan as you can get but I, like almost every fan, have opinions on how the team performs. Last night we weren't great against a poor team which has major injury worries. Quite a silly post from you really.

Regis Le Bris praises Eliezer Mayenda's Sunderland attacking display

    upload_2025-1-22_7-46-19.jpeg

    https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...liezer-mayendas-sunderland-attacking-display/

REGIS LE BRIS feels Eliezer Mayenda is developing into the striker Sunderland need as they look to force their way into the Premier League....

Mayenda scored Sunderland’s first-half winner at Pride Park, with Le Bris having been impressed with the rate of the teenager’s development this season.

“We have many young players, and for someone like Eli, they need experiences to grow,” said the Black Cats boss. “Obviously, in an ideal world, we would like to have (forward) players who are tall and fast, with a good technique and good finishing. In a perfect world, you want someone who can do everything.

“But we have to build these players. The players we have are talented, but they need time and experiences to grow. Eli is getting that, and he is doing well.”

Sunderland dominated for the opening hour against Derby, with Mayenda’s clinical finish after a through ball from Jobe Bellingham handing them a deserved lead.

The Rams rallied in the final half-hour, though, forcing Le Bris to change system and revert to a three-man midfield, and the Black Cats were indebted to two excellent saves from Anthony Patterson that enabled them to keep a clean sheet.

“It was a big win, an important win for our journey,” said Le Bris. “It was a tough game. We had the opportunity to score a second goal, but we didn’t and with their back three and wide players, it was difficult to press and apply pressure on their first ball.

“I think after the first 15 minutes, the formation worked well. We were good in that part of the game, and Eli scored in that position so it was positive from that perspective.

“After that, it was a bit more difficult and we lost a bit of control in the middle of the pitch. When we have two strikers, we have one less player in the middle.

"Halfway through the second half, we decided to make a change and play with three midfielders again, and I think it was better for us. At the end, it was a good choice.”

Perhaps it was and I should apologise.

    Your one and only post
, about this match, was criticism.

There's plenty of time for criticising Rigg, RLB and the team ...

... just for a few minutes it would be nice to be able to celebrate another win before people start piling in.

It's like posting opinions, 'assessments' and 'breakdowns' mean more to some people than the three points and third place.

Of course you're entitled to an opinion but, in reality, whether you think Rigg 'needs a rest' or not is irrelevant ...

... Rigg doesn't think so and neither does his manager.

If he'd been left out we might've lost but we'll never know, so it's easy to claim we'd have been better dropping him.

If you feel it's irrelevant then don't engage in that type of discussion. There are lots of quality posters on here who have high, technical understanding of the game and like to discuss it as it happens.

If you don't, fine. But don't try to stop people engaging in such discussion because it's not what you want.

I was kind of hoping our manager did ...

... but some people just can't wait to tell him where he's going wrong.

Of course. These are just our in game assessments as we see it. Many use this place to bounce tactical and technical understanding of each other. It's really the point of the forum TBH.

Sorry, not sure what you mean. Multiple people in here like to debate the in game decisions and tactics. If you don't then don't. Don't try to stop people from doing so man.

The whole point of this place is to comment on all things Sunderland related, if some comment that they would like to see us do something differently then what's wrong with that?

I actually thought the discussions were really good last night and loads of people made some cracking points about the tactical side of our performance

If we shouldn't comment on these things then I really don't see the point in this forum. It's the same when we are signing players, if people think they are a good/bad signing then it's great to hear their thoughts

Noone went over the top last night and we were all buzzing about the result, some weren't happy with the performance and explained why - nothing wrong with that imo

I'm not doing that and didn't do it last night ...

... you're missing my point because you can only see things through your eyes.

People couldn't and shouldn't be stopped from posting their opinions of how things are going during games. Otherwise the match threads would just be RTB posting updates.

I do get the frustration when people only come in when things are going badly and post negative stuff. But I often put that down as people needing to vent and using this forum as a vehicle to do that.

What annoys me is when people who are being "negative" try to force that on others and belittle them for not agreeing. That's not good.

    Spot on

Most are consistent posters, so they'll post win lose or draw. At times they'll post more when we lose, but as you said its to vent.

I just hate when posters appear out of nowhere when things aren't going well to slag the club off but never post when things are going well. They are entitled to that of course, but that's when I get annoyed

I enjoyed reading the discussions last night, I didn't agree with some of the comments folk made but it was nice to hear from a different perspective

I made one comment to one person who's first, and only, comment had been a barrage of criticism.

Before I posted I had a quick look at his previous matchday contributions and it was much of the same.

I don't know why you and Prehab are claiming I want a blanket ban on all discussion ...

... your reaction seems a bit OTT tbh.

I thought the performance wasn’t our usual standard last night but we had to scrap a Derby team that were fighting for it

    ultimately should’ve been a comfortable 2-0 though

    Anyway, team for Saturday?

I reckon we might see the same team / shape but with Roberts in for Rigg.

Whilst I didnt like how it worked last night, I think it will work better at home, and especially with a proper wide player on one of the sides at least.

Roberts needs to come back into the starting 11 for me. He is more effective than Rigg out wide and allows us to pin full backs a bit more. Not fixed with ELF outside on the left but I don't think it will be Plymouth at home at makes this an issue.
