Andrew Neil ripped into Chancellor Rachel Reeves over plans to launch a war on waste in a bid to stabilise public finances.
The veteran broadcaster said the idea that Labour would take on unions to boost productivity in the public sector was "ludicrous".
He added that the pledge shows she has "run out of ideas" and her days "maybe numbered".

"First, the idea this government will do anything to tackle the dead hand of public-sector unions opposed to most reforms which would increase productivity is ludicrous. Just about every stone will be left unturned.
"Second, when politicians fall back on 'waste and inefficiency' as their get out of jail card you know they've run out of ideas - and that their days in office are maybe numbered."
It comes as the Chancellor will lead a new push aimed at getting a grip on "waste and inefficiency" across the public sector which will leave "no stone unturned".

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones [ ERJIT ] said: "When speaking to our colleagues in Cabinet, we have been abundantly clear about the mess we were left and the fiscal picture in front of us. [ NOTE SLOWLY BEING EXPOSED AS SMOKE AND MIRRORS !]
"Firstly, we simply cannot operate in a business-as-usual way when reviewing departmental budgets for the coming years.
"Secondly, when it comes to tackling waste, nothing is off the table.
"That's why we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to rooting out waste across the public sector.
"Departments have been told they must find savings and efficiencies across their budgets while making sure every pound of taxpayer money is spent wisely."
He added that Britain has "already endured years of waste and inefficiency in the public sector" and that billions of pounds have been lost.
It comes after turbulence on the gilt markets last week as the backlash to Labour's first Budget continued.

WHAT A PATHETIC EXCUSE! savings and efficiency to save £15bn a year ................. v the unions who have ideas that how they work is fine and will fight cahange to make them more efficient .......

    GUILTY .. both parties ....

local elections in May when the 3 year term of x % number of councilors is reviewed! NO WAY ho say! say TORIES & LABOUR! ..... "LET THEM HAVE ANOTHER 3 UNELECTED YEARS"
why! .. because that way those councils in "either parties power" can not be lost to Reform/ greens/ lib Dems. SO any poor results like being responsible for mismanagement or losing £000.000 's to debt will just go on and on & we will have to pay more and more council tax as the debts mount up!
BRISTOL has been very poorly run and stripped of £'s million by the last few years under Marv's rule .. now we have a chance to change that and the ,GOV SAYS p*** **F

Ducking DARREN sets a new record of being asked the same question 8 times and avoiding an answeron SKY THIS AM!

Kemi finally gets round to reminding Granny Harmer 2 tier that the OBR has stated there was no £22m Blackhole! and GH2T didnt reply to it .... a fact that had he, he would be acknowledging or at least giving it more attention in the wrong way, as a lame excuse/ lie!... interestingly his last [ closing ] comments were tamer than usual in attempting character assasination, I did note today he did an awful lot of reading from his script/ crib sheet.......

rather a tame PMQ's although his posture and attempts at oneliner "jokes" seem to indicate he is not an assurred person....

It's all a big con just like electric cars and both are ventures that the Tories and Labour look to make money from whilst making British citizens colder and poorer.
Heat pumps mean bigger radiators and less warm houses and that's without the up front costs.
I'll stick with my combi Gas boiler thanks

THIS IS AN EXTRACT FROM AN ARTICLE that involves building on a piece of land that is ancient meadow .. has a myriad of rarities and these wildlife and plants and is a major natural green space for many common birds and small mammals an eco centre of nature and a common land area where since the 60's has been to knowledge and well before a place of "romance"!!!!!

Homes England was controversially awarded planning permission for the 260 new homes in 2023, on appeal after the plan was rejected by Bristol City Council. The plan is controversial because Bristol City Council earmarked the land for housing in 2014, and former Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees encouraged Homes England in 2019 to buy it, spending £15 million of taxpayers money, to speed up the building of homes there.

But, within a year, back in 2021, Marvin Rees announced a U-turn and said he would prevent homes being built there, in an election campaign announcement on the Meadows, in which he was flanked by Kerry McCarthy - something that, ultimately he was unable to do, after a Government Planning Inspector ruled Homes England’s plans should get the green light.

............. amazing is it not " lies and deceit?" through and through" one particular party that was / has been .. for ever throwing stones in the glass house when another party was in power. I wonder how many votes were cast on the basis of we wont build there ! .. bit like we tax the pay packet we wont rais NIC we wont hurt the pensioners ... TOTAL DECEIT through and through.. no wonder they want to cancel all the local elections they stand to lose 90% of all their councillors ... and Granny Harmer and his Cronies wont like that.

Rees is a liar and a con man

Also very pointed that in all of these towns where the rape/grooming gangs were prolific virtually all of them had Labour councils

The now 18 year old who murdered the 3 young girls in Southport last summer is an unbelievable story of mass failure amongst the people who are supposed to protect us all

Expelled from school for carrying a knife 5 years beforehand
Police visited the house on multiple occasions
Referred to the Prevent agency on multiple occasions because of his radical views
Tried to get into his old school and attack kids before his father intervened
Had Ricin and an Al Quaeda handbook when arrested
Known to the NHS and multiple other agencies including Social Services
And yet, none of these institutions did the one thing that would have stopped this atrocity by calling him out and exposing his background

Nigel Farage was predictably called far right by some of our lefty media when he asked for clarity on the motives and background and ethnicity of the attack and the attacker, before the rioting started and of course the wooden Starmer did nothing to help the situation, he just farted meaningless words

And people wonder why millions more will vote Reform at the next election !

Like the rape gangs failure many many people need to be jailed for life for their silence and inaction over both situations

And even this morning the BBC are still failing to mention the links between the Southport attack and terrorism until the very end of the story

I hope he gets the sort of treatment he richly deserves in prison because

    Disgusting

Figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government show there were 21,430 households waiting for a social home from Bristol Council as of March.
This was a rise from 20,065 a year earlier and the highest figure since records began in 1987.
These figures only cover council waiting lists, and do not include privately-provided social housing.

Without being specific, as rumour has it! .. near to where I live is a family of 4 just over 2 years ago they lived on the AFRICAN continent just about 1 year ago they "lived" in EUROPE [ camping?!] now they have 2 bedroom house supplied by the council .................. neither parent works!

You sound surprised while British people on the waiting list will still be waiting
Another fact is that 85% of Muslim women in this country don’t work and the vast majority claim benefits of all descriptions that we pay for

He certainly shoots from the hip and there are times, this being one of them, when he needs to reign it in a bit

However, you have to ask WTF was a helicopter, and on a training flight, doing anywhere near Reagan Airport ?!

I’ve been to Washington many times and due to the central location of Reagan Airport which is close to Arlington Military Cemetery, compared to Baltimore/Washington Parkway and Dulles airports, it can only take smaller planes due to the length of its runway, and it’s very very busy.

A sad and catastrophic error whoever is found to be responsible, as Trump is right when he says this should never have happened and it was preventable

    Tragic

In his first major intervention since retiring, Sir Peter – who went to the same school as Sir Keir, Reigate Grammar – accuses the Prime Minister of “pretending” it was a state school and says the policy denies poorer students the educational opportunities enjoyed by the Prime Minister.

The school was funded by the council when Sir Keir joined but two years later it became independent. The local authority agreed to cover fees for pupils who had enrolled before the conversion and Sir Keir then received a bursary to continue his studies in the sixth form. The school now charges up to £9,150 a term for older pupils.

Sir Peter, whose charity is credited with transforming the lives of thousands of young people, writes: “I don’t pretend the school we went to was a state school, Starmer does. But he is fudging the facts.
