Good Morning. It's Tuesday 21st January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Buendia's representatives fly to London to discuss future

Aston Villa would not stand in Emi Buendia's way if he wanted to leave Villa Park this month in search of game time.

That's according to Villans boss Unai Emery, who after praising the Argentine's professionalism and work rate in training, admitted he wouldn't stand in Buendia's way if he wanted to go out on loan this month.

The 28yo has recently been linked with a move to River Plate, a club he supported growing up, but for now it least it seems he is happy to stay in England. His representatives are flying to London to discuss his future!

Leeds have always maintained a willingness to strengthen during Winter transfer windows in the past, as long as the player is affordable, and would improve the quality of the starting XI.

Even in the unlikely event that the club would have to cover his full salary (£80,000 per week), just over £1.1m is a small price to pay for automatic promotion, given they are just over 14 weeks between now and the end of the season!

their squad this window, they've struggled to find players who would significantly improve their starting eleven. But, in Buendia's case, the opportunity presents itself as a clear option to enhance the Leeds attack. Given the player's availability and quality, a move for Buendia could be a very straightforward and sensible acquisition for Leeds.

Leeds stance in the January market has never been an unwillingness to strengthen, it's more not been able to find the players that would significantly improve their starting XI, but in Buendia's cas, it's a no brainer.

Debayo set to miss out on loan move

As things go, James Debayo is set to miss out on a loan move, to act as cover in-case of an injury crisis at Elland Road.

That's according to Daniel Farke, speaking ahead of Wednesday nights game against former club Norwich City, who themselves have eight players missing through injury and suspension. With Wober's injury record, the gaffer is worried about the lack of cover at centre back, despite the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Joshua Guilavogui both experienced in this position.

Given Debayo's one minute of game time from all competitions this season, is it not more likely that the gaffer would throw a seasoned professional like Joe Rothwell in as an emergency centre-back before experimenting with the 19yo?

“We’ve allowed Joffy and Charlie, but it is important we don’t overdo it. With Pascal out, Max Wober’s availability has not been that great, I am a bit careful with doing this [letting Debayo go on loan]. “At the moment, we have to make sure in terms of quality numbers, the group is not getting too small. Yes it is a possibility, but only a small possibility and only in the last few days of the window”

Ben Brereton-Diaz has signed for Sheffield Utd.

Surely a no brainer- it's only a loan!

Southampton bottom of the league, relegation certainty, they loan out Diaz, Southampton fans on Not 606 forum saying he is possibly the worst player to ever wear a Southampton shirt

He might prove them wrong at this level but the signs are not good, I wouldn’t take him

Buendia I would as Farke can get the best out of him

Shown his true colours way too often to remove all doubt. He is a, waste of a wage and should be gone.

Didn't Saints sign someone who they thought was the cousin of George Weah, and made his debut against Leeds as a sub, only to be subbed off again?

The (Short) Story Of Ali Dia And The Greatest Con In Premier League History

At 31, Ali Dia fooled Southampton into his first appearance in the Premier League. He had never played a professional game before and he definitely wasn’t George Weah’s cousin.

Our story starts in 1996, when Graeme Souness managed Galatasaray.

After winning the Turkish Cup final, Souness grabbed his team’s flag and planted it in the centre of Fenerbahce’s home field.

Angry “moustached” men chased him down the tunnel and Souness was met with a clamp to the head by a home fan.

It was at that moment that Souness decided to return home and have another crack at managing in the Premier League. This time, at Southampton.

At the time of his arrival, Premier League clubs were receiving calls from a mystery man.

“I keep getting phone calls at the training ground from a guy called ‘Georgie Weah’,” West Ham manager Harry Redknapp recalls. “Lovely George, you wanna play for West Ham?”

“No, I have another player for you. My cousin, Ali Dia.”

“This is a wind-up.” Redknapp hangs up.

On the same day, Gillingham manager, Tony Pulis took the bait: “I was shocked to receive a call from someone claiming to be George Weah, recommending his cousin.”

“...we gave the lad a trial and he was rubbish.”

Dia failed to impress in his trials at Rotherham, Bournemouth and Gillingham. He decided to head south and try his luck with Southampton.

Things weren't going to plan for Souness. So when he received a call from 'George Weah' introducing his 'cousin', he thought his luck had changed.

“He has played with George Weah at Paris Saint-Germain. When someone like that gives you a recommendation you sit up and take notice,” Souness said.

Dia’s luck also began to take a turn. Despite scepticism around who this mystery man was, Dia impressed at his trials.

Southampton decided to take a punt and offered him a one-month trial.

Dia made his break-through into the squad against Leeds in November 1996. His moment came after 32-minutes, when club-legend Matt Le Tissier came off injured.

While chasing a two-nil deficit, Souness subbed on ‘George Weah’s’ cousin to change their fate.

“Graeme put him on and he was f**king hopeless,” remembers Le Tissier. “We were like: ‘What’s this geezer doing?"

The 31-year-old Senegalese played 53 minutes in the top-flight and achieved a remarkable 100% shot accuracy.

They lost two goals to nil.

“He came in for treatment on Sunday morning. He was told to report again on Monday, and he did a runner.” Le Tisser concludes.

Hasnt Buendia already said he doesnt want to drop to the championship. Eventhough everything is there for him to kickstart his career and be noticed again. Might change his mind but I Think if he does move it will be abroad also his wages are a massive factor even if we did get him there would have to be some give from there end even in a loan move.

Sky reporting that Sheff U have agreed a £10 million deal for Tom Cannon. Seems like they’re going for it in the second half of the season.

Another though who wouldn't get in our current squad, Leicester will want to avoid relegation but with one eye on it, they obviously don't feel he is worth holding on to

Fair play to them. They’d be top of the league already only for their points deduction. We’ll have a good tussle with them

Got to admit, I know nothing about him. Seems a lot of money given Leicester don’t want him and that they are near on relegation certainties.

They were lucky it was only two points. Makes it worthwhile to break the rules.

Cannon's a great striker, 11 goals for a very poor Stoke side this season.

Of course it’s worthwhile. Leicester villa blunts Forest everton. Did none of them harm and improved some of them a lot and Everton get a shiny new stadium to boot. Not to mention City and Chelsea. In meantime we’re law abiding and are in a wilderness
