    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 21 January 2025
    Kick off - 7:45pm

Following yet another embarrassing away performance and defeat, but this time arguably the most unforgivable as it was at Cardiff, next up for beleaguered Luke Williams’ sinking Swansea squad is a home match against automatic promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.

Last Saturday, Cardiff claimed their biggest South Wales derby league win for nearly 60 years with a 3-0 Sky Bet Championship home victory over the Swans.

Callum Robinson's brace at the start of the second-half put Cardiff in command and Dimitrios Goutas thundered home a header off the underside of the crossbar to ram home their superiority.

It ended a run of six games without home joy for Cardiff and secured the biggest league victory over their arch-rivals since winning 5-0 at Ninian Park in April 1965 - 60 bloody years!

Following Saturday’s win over their local rivals, Cardiff remain 20th in the Championship table, one point clear of the relegation zone.

The Swans meanwhile are winless in four games in all competitions, and remain locked in mid-table in the second-tier standings, but unless there is a swift turnaround, they could soon be looking nervously over their shoulders.

On the same day as the Swans lost in Cardiff, Harrison Burrows scored twice to send Sheffield United back (albeit temporarily) to the top of the Championship as they beat Norwich City at Bramall Lane.

The Blades hit the front when full-back Burrows chested down a loose clearance and fired in a shot which hit both posts before finding the net.

And the 23-year-old slammed a second-half penalty into the bottom corner of the net after Sam McCallum drew a clumsy challenge from Ben Chrisene.

A 10th home win of the season sent Chris Wilder's side above Burnley - who drew with top-four rivals Sunderland on Friday - and two points clear of Leeds. However, Leeds thumped Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 on Sunday to reclaim top spot.

The Swans have played the blades on 47 previous occasions, winning just 13 compared to 23 for United, with 11 matches drawn.

In the corresponding fixture two seasons ago, the Blades ran out 1-0 winners in their promotion season:

Turning to tomorrow evening, an already strong Blades squad has been strengthened still further today having signed Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz on loan until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old Chile forward ended last season on loan at Bramall Lane and scored six goals in 14 Premier League appearances for the Blades. He is expected to be in the squad for tomorrow’s match.

As for the Swans, there are still no incoming signings during this window….

As for the outcome tomorrow night? I can see nothing other than a Sheffield United victory. 1-3 to the Blades.

    Hope I’m wrong <cheers>

Thanks Taff for your preview. After last Saturdays non performance and lack of comment from the club I would like t think that the players will turn up tonight and give us one of those strange we do care and are good enough performances. Swans will win 2-1 if that is the case. But who knows>

Oh dear. The performances in the last few games give me no confidence that we can get anything out of this one. We’ve moved from being inconsistent to consistently bad the last few weeks.
    3 goal victory to them.

Can I say "ditto"? Getting regularly battered by the relegation position teams is very worrying and can only mean a comfortable away win. 0 - 2.

If they lose again then it'll take drastic action to stop a free fall !

I’m told that they are bringing fewer than 600 fans, and that the Club fears that the overall physical attendance will be less than 10,000 ….

600 hardy traveller's on a cold Tuesday evening, travelling from Sheffield to Swansea is a pretty good effort.

Attendances normally reflect standard of performances, results, etc., so little wonder fewer customers prepared to waste their time and money.

I’m sure that if it were a Saturday, the Blades would have had probably double.

But as Vetch says, a pretty good turnout for a Tuesday evening. <cheers>

By this, do you mean football generally, or Swansea City in particular ?

Are you envisaging a terminality to the game ?

Never going to happen. Too many people follow it, and enough money around to secure it's future.
That doesn't preclude some Clubs going out of business, but they would be replaced soon enough.

The money vultures are sucking the life, the grass roots, out of the game.

I'm sure you can see that.

We are destroying them at the moment - but we definitely need another goal or 3
