Mentioned it above and on the war thread, the US could have ended that war and stopped Putin in his tracks by supplying Europe with Oil and Gas, which would have crippled Russia's economy. They probably didn't as it would have affected ordinary Russians, rather than the rich oligarchs the prop Putin up. But it might be what Trump is considering in his phone call to putin to 'end the war on day one'

I don’t think Putin will go back once the fighting stops, I’m saying that if the fighting continues it’s more likely he takes the full country than Ukraine pushing them out.

I’d like to see Ukraine fast tracked into NATO as part of the deal that see’s the war end and Putin being satisfied with the land he now has. If not that then there has to be something in place that deters Russia from coming back for the rest, at some point.

I think Russia are pretty heavily depleted at the moment and wouldn't be able to sustain a war that took the whole of Ukraine.

The problem with Putin, is that he's seen that he's been able to take Crimea, invade Chechnya and Georgia with little to no repercussions, and whilst I agree that areas like the Donbas are likely to end up as Russian territory, that process further emboldens Putin in his expansionist agenda.

NATO membership for Ukraine would be a big red flag for Putin, but **** him, he needs to understand that you can't just walk into another person's country and claim it as your own. The other problem that muddies the waters, is that he sees people like Jinping talking about taking Taiwan and Trump talking about taking Greenland and the Panama Canal, and is probably thinking why should I play by the international rules when they aren't.

Those countries have problems of course but they aint riddled with stabby kids and terror attacks every few months, no lgbtg bullshit infesting the minds of thier young, castrations for ****s, swift justice systems and deportations and general civil peace... the list goes on.

With this TickTok ban that lasted a day<laugh>, loads of yanks joined an alternative Chinese app called red note, I saw stacks and stacks of videos from genuinely upset yanks saying how being on there they quickly realised how welcoming and nice the people were towards them and realised how much bullshit theyve been fed about China and it's people in particular, they work generally one job, less than 40hrs a week, they can afford food and house bills, thier cost of living is fukall in relation to theirs in the US and they were not happy with this discovery.

A problem Putin has is Russia has not entered full blown recession territory because it is currently in a war time economy mode. Productivity is higher than average across multiple sectors which fuels some aspects of the economy.

But Gazprom are laying people off and the fossil fuel industry has been hit hard in Europe.

Theyll be anxious about ending the war without sanctions being lifted, Putin needs economic stability, he's built his entire career around it.

If Russia agree to a amicable peace I think sanctions should be lifted, losing Syria was punishment enough.

Dunno if you are lumping the US in there with china and Russia. But the US has a massive gun violence problem, Russia has had years of terror attacks from separatists as well as Islamist terror attacks ftom
daesh. And china has knife crime too.

Let’s not forget that both of these latter mentioned counties lock people up in work camps for minor violations and any criticism of the state.

I'm sure it's like everywhere on earth. Most people are decent, but there are plenty of lesser quality around too. I'd bet even in North Korea, or Nazi Germany, most people were decent people. Doesn't mean the leading regime isn't scum.
