But we don’t know if relegation is the dynamite, that’s the thing.

This is more or less just a hopeful scenario for some fans, there isn’t actually any proof or substance to back the claim of “relegation = ENIC leave” and I think as CK pointed out, relegation potentially makes us harder to sell too. No one’s buying a championship club for the rumoured £4bn asking price.

As much as I can’t stand Levy these days, I don’t think I could support the notion of relegation just to spite him.

I think relegation would mean they’re less likely to leave.

Also relegation from the PL would have severe financial consequences for Spurs as well as the embarrassment that goes along with it

I've seen us relegated and rise from the ashes. I was on the pitch in '77 after relegation was confirmed...and we did return.

Look at the club's showing us how it's done - Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Forest. They've all been in a lower division recently. It's not the end of anything. I'd rather go down and start again than repeat the last 5 years.

None of that means we’d do the same though.

Nothing about relegation can lead to optimism.

Let's keep repeating the 18 month churn, then.

What I think doesn't have any effect on what happens, but I'm ****ing bored of the current nonsense. I'd rather die having a go than go through this nonsense anymore. Enough!

Getting relegated isn’t having a go though, that’s probably the furthest thing from such.

All I see a relegation achieving is breaking the hearts of Spurs fans. Levy would almost certainly still sit in his role and pay himself a whopping salary all whilst we the fans suffer.

Whether we get relegated is in the hands of those who have created this situation. I'm unable to affect it. It will or won't happen, no matter what I think.

If I was granted 1 wish and it was either :

Daniel and things stay as they are and we stay up;or
We get relegated and Daniel and Ange depart, even without ENIC selling.

I would choose option 2. No doubts at all.

But it's not real and my thinking it and us discussing it just shows how hopeless things have become...just like when my cousin asked me "If you had 1 bullet, who would you shoot - Ruel Fox or Ramon Vega?".

If we beat Leicester this weekend I really can’t see us being relegated which no matter how you look at it, is never a good thing in this day and age. The finances weren’t as great a difference in the 70s and 80s so not as much jeopardy if you did go down and probably didn’t get players demanding to leave either.

The 3 promoted teams are all pretty poor (although Ipswich do have a bit of fight), wolves new manager bounce is quickly evaporating with their horrendous run of fixtures and it’s pretty rare nowadays that 40 points was needed to beat relegation. 4 wins should be enough but I would still expect us to get a few more than that anyway.

Iraola seems like the best bet for you lot imo. Gives me massive Poch vibes with what he's doing at Bournemouth.

The amount of people talking about relegation is hilarious. There's no way Ipswich are going to manage an extra 9 points to what you are in remaining games.

Our horrific run has bagged us 5 points from 8 matches. Even if we were to repeat that twice more we would have 34 points.

Did Ange deserve a second season with us? Yes

Does Ange deserve a third season with us? No - and the list of reasons is getting longer

I agree with all of this, and this was my thinking as recently as a couple of days ago. but as Dier Hard has pointed out, levy isn’t going anywhere. We’re screwed.
Only choice is to change the manager again and hope for the best. At some point a footballing decision by levy has to be a positive one!

in terms of relegation, whilst some teams have shown “how it’s done” by coming back up and being stronger, there’s also clubs like Leeds who were out of the premier league for ****ing years and years.

I’d rather we weren’t in that position to be honest, despite how much I hate levy.

Relegation doesn’t bother me one iota. For a start, it would devalue the club and also bring ticket prices down. By devaluing the club, this could lead to enic/Levy selling up but one suspects they wouldn’t sell at this time as they would rather maximise their investment and sell at a peak.

However, we can’t assume we would get instant promotion like the late 70s. The Championship is brutal and it’s a far more difficult environment than the old Div 2 in the 70s.

Still, I can’t see us being relegated but like death, I have no fears but it’s not something I’m wishing for!

But what would happen about financing the stadium?

Don't really keep up with that sort of thing but would relegation mean that there would be less revenue from all sources for a season? Would that have an impact on any rebuild?

To me the biggest issue would be players leaving as it would be "beneath them" to play in that league.... Then they may well struggle to come straight back up!

I would hazard a guess that the finance agreement could be amended to reflect any relegation but I would also imagine that the Club would still be able to meet their current obligations simply by having a reduced salary level.

Yes, we would lose some players but they can easily be replaced. Relegation would be a disaster for ENIC/Levy but not necessarily for the fans.

So there’s now rumours that certain players are complaining about Ange’s demands in training, and the schedule. It’s these exact type of media reports that always come out, just before the manager is about to be sacked. Happened with Conte, Mourinho and Nuno IIRC.
Convenient that it’s happening again. It’s almost become routine. It’s like Levy is sowing the seed to make it seem like the players are unhappy, so he’s got no choice but to pull the trigger. Too coincidental for my liking.
