Many of the people sending their children to fee paying schools are not wealthy and cannot afford to pay 20% extra so their children will be returning to the State education system that will have to find places for them. Is there an exemption for SEND children? Introducing this tax change part way through the school year is just sheer vindictiveness driven by ideology. The Left hate any form of selective education even if the hypocritical leader of the Labour government actually went to a fee paying school and was funded to do so by the taxpayer because his lowly pleb father was a Communist toolmaker. I note this morning that there is already talk of an exemption from VAT for the children of people that earn less than £45k. That sounds like another bureaucratic nightmare for which the Big State will create some more paperwork. Farms that have been passed from generation to generation in families to continue farming should not be subject to inheritance tax because the ‘value’ of the land can only be realised by selling it, which would probably result it that land ceasing being used for food production and would make us more reliant upon food imports. If farming families sell the land to giant international conglomerates, where are they going to find workers willing to work that land? Immigrants? I thought they were all high skill people that we needed to fill shortage in high skill industries.
