Back in the day Jim Baxter took a mean pen. Don't ever remember him missing. Isador will bounce back, he's got the talent and the mentality.
He may have missed one of his first pens but scored the next 30 odd nearly always sending the gk wrong way. He was one of the first players to watch the keeper as he took the kick. Nerveless.
@DomShawEcho #SAFC face a nervous wait for further news on Chris Mepham's hamstring injury. Mepham set to be closely assessed this morning. After Alese injury, Le Bris said this week any further defensive setbacks would likely force Sunderland into transfer action.https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/24866789.sunderland-boss-regis-le-bris-chris-mepham-injury/
Here are my thoughts on Isidor. He would have heard all the rumours and he will know that we are looking at a striker. That added extra pressure to a bloke in an already extremely pressurised situation And John McPhail was a pretty good penalty taker all things considered
Who do we think will take the next one? Weird that this sort of thing is entirely based on vibes. I think it might be Jobe from a purely mentality point of view. I fear it’ll be Neil.
Aye. Those are the swing games needed to get top 2. Pen takers are really important as it's needed to clutch high pressure situations. Hopefully we do some reflection on it. Wouldn't want to go into play offs and pens to come calling!!!
From memory he scored every penalty in our promotion season, but missed one at home when we were mathematically up.
On the surface it makes sense a forward should take the penalties… players who score goals from all sorts of positions, normally under pressure from opposing players. A penalty is 12 yards out with only the keeper to beat. Sounds simple doesn’t it so for me it comes down to the mentality / confidence of the player. If not then it should be someone who takes free kicks. Dead ball specialists who look to pop the ball in the top corner from 20/25 yards out. It still surprises me that more penalty takers don’t look for the top corners. Much harder for the keeper to save. So for me I think Enzo should take them moving forward
I’m not annoyed with Isidor for missing two pens, I’m baffled as to why we don’t have a named penalty taker. Jobe also has the ball in his hands initially for the second and should’ve really taken it. Never mind though, seen enough of this squad to know we are good enough. One or two more additions and injured players returning will see us challenging the top 2.
Lost my head last night, still love Isidor but my word why is no one stepping in and taking that second away from him. You could see his confidence was absolutely shot from the first one but again, if Roberts stepped il and missed we would be screaming why we didn’t let Isidor take it, so they can’t win really. (Literally) that’s enough of yesterday, erase it from the memory. Enzo Le Fee looks a player though doesn’t he? My word, excited to see him playing more centrally.
