It's **** all to do with Neil, the coaches agree penalty takers. Not sure how you can shoe horn Neil into that conversation
One thing I’ve thought through this season is that there isn’t full belief we can get top two and that we’re overachieving. I think after tonight we’ve shown that we are absolutely at Burnley’s level (looked quite a bit better than them imo) and the lads really need to start believing that top two is on. I have a feeling we can go on a run, things are close to clicking it’s just that final piece of putting games away. Need Meptham to be okay and ELF looks to be an absolutely incredible addition. 3 points needed at derby.
They were wonderful, I'm absolutely proud to be a Sunderland supporter tonight ... ... had texts from Liverpool, Portsmouth, Celtic mates, etc and all saying 'How can these kids keep doing it'! What a season we're having, I'm already counting the days til the next match.
He doesn't have a desire to be centre of attention, he's just a confident lad who wants to score goals. He missed 2 pens it's not the end of the world
You seem to do and know everything mate so I’ll just take your word for it and move on not like the professional goalkeeper said he was covering it
we'll get more points than burnley thats for sure for me, need the fixtures between the top 3 to results in a few draws or just fall our way. Confident we can match them in the run in and take it far
Second one was fine imo. Struck pretty well and a decent distance into the corner. Just a very good save unfortunately. First was worse.
Penalties aside, that was a very good performance. Would've rather seen Mayenda for Roberts instead of Rigg earlier on like.
cheers again RTB... well there are bad ways to win games, there are bad ways to lose games but we are the absolute masters of fecking games up when given two golden chances. very good 'cat and mouse' game that mind, both teams playing it slow and hoping for the chances to appear, both sides pressing yet no real break-aways, very close to getting the win tonight but a draw is welcome in any away game...burnley had a couple of good chances as well don't forget but i feel it was more a case of try not to lose than to go all out for a win. gutted for wilson, he just did not have his shoes on the right feet tonight, he has good games and bad ones, tonight is one for him to forget...watching it i was swearing at the screen after the 2nd one but then thought what would i have done and i possibly would have done exactly the same thing trying to out-think the keeper, he will get over it just as onien got over his recent mare of a game, sh1t happens. my MotM is going to ELF, some very good touches and a canny couple of shots on his debut...because of the way the game was played no one really stood out although i would not say anyone played badly either, onto the next one and still in touch.
For a team at home, with players who have played in the premier league and are looking to go straight up, we've proved that we're a better team. Parker is seriously relieved, their players and fans reacted like they've won the league! We more than matched them and we've learned that Isidor is **** at penalties. Jobe was absolutely immense tonight and my MOTM quickly followed by O'Nien and Le Fee.
The 2nd one was, isidors 1st pen was poor imo but it's a brilliant save for the 2nd He's a brilliant penalty saver, I remember seeing him for England u21s (think it was that age group) and he won them a penalty shootout with his saves
It’s the fact he’s just missed a penalty, 2 minutes beforehand. It’s a clear disadvantage for him stepping up to take the 2nd penalty. There’s no guarantee anyone else would have scored, but it was a guarantee he would miss.
One other thing - Egan-Riley was absolutely immense. So so impressed with him. A rolls Royce. Best centre back in the league for me. Maybe alongside Esteve
Gutted but you miss penalties sometimes. He is a good player but I'd take him off pens. Give it to Neil he's generally not too emotional which is the more important thing for pens. Le Fee was unbelievable at times although I expect he might get rested against Derby since it's a short turnaround. Need to dust ourselves off and go again. Currently taken 8 points out a possible 15 from the other top 4 sides which is good. Just need to slap the also-rans around.
If Isidor scores the second one, everyone is singing his praises for being confident and getting "straight back on the horse". The outcome drives people's opinions about what preceded it in these situations.
I wanted Rigg off earlier personally. The subs were late. Could have benefitted from AA too to add a bit more creativity.
January is huge for the top 4 clubs, we've made the 1st big improvement with Le Fee. Let's see what the rest of the window brings but we are in with a cracking shout
As the club captain he should have taken it off Isidor to protect Isidor. Isidor was majorly disadvantaged under that much pressure.
