From what I have read of these proceedings, it seems likely there is going to be a by-election after sentencing in February. If Amesbury gets stir then he automatically loses his seat. If he gets a suspended sentence then that automatically triggers a recall petition so the electorate can turf him out. If he gets suspended from Parliament for more than ten days then a recall petition is triggered. Sir Keith Stalin will not be welcoming him back to the fold but looking for a replacement candidate. Reform will be readying a candidate.

My father left school at 15 and became an apprentice and he retired at 65, having done nearly 50 years; however, like almost everyone still alive he would not have paid N.I. before he was 16. I cannot attest to whether he was even paid as an apprentice as those in full time education or unpaid apprenticeships were exempt. Also, in 1965 (that is 60 years ago), persons earning less than £260 a year were below the N.I. payment threshold. Do you know any 15 year olds that left school and went straight into jobs paying more than £5 a week in 1965?
