Alright, I just wrote my latest CV (admittedly very quickly) and wouldn't mind a quick opinion from a few of you who I know have experience in this/own your own businesses etc. if any of you have the time...

I'm sending it off by tomorrow so any quick tips would be appreciated, cheers.

I can get my Human Resources manager to have a look at it. He's written a book on the damn things!

Could give a better insight than myself, even though I go through a load everyday. Although, thats not saying much as I generally pick out the girls who sound like they could possibly be a nice bit of totty.

I used to work in a bar in the centre of Nottingham and whenever an attractive (read "fit, big boobs" etc) handed in a cv or application the shift manager would put a "600" at the top of the CV... the general manager would then know which ones to look at and which ones not to <laugh>

Oh and JWAG, if you want me to have a quick look then I can PM you my email... I don't work in HR or anything but would give me an excuse not to revise/study for a couple of hours

Try to avoid claiming you bleed black & white. Other than that you're doing the right thing by getting someone else to read through it and look at it objectively.

Managing Director to secretary, "Here you are Miss Jones, just put this application into the waste bin, I recognise the writing on the envelope".

Hi JWAG. Still haven't received it but noticed I didn't include the full email address in the PM. Did you send it to hotmail.com or hotmail.co.uk? I've got a hotmail.com address.

    :)

If you like you can PM me and I'll give you my email and have a nose through it. Ideally you want to tweak each copy for the position/business in question. Detail how any previous jobs will either bring something new to the position or how aspects of of them could be seen as beneficial experience, with the exception of any jobs who specifically want a newbie, in which case they're probably weary of bad habbits. Actually worth slipping in something about them in particular if you can do it in an unobvious manner, shows that you're efforts are directed at them specifically. They like that :)

Also, they're likely to to go through a hell of a lot of applicants. Yes you want to sell yourself, but everything needs to be very clear and quick to read. You need a happy balance between information/effort and quick and easy to skim read.

There really is loads more to it though. As someone already said, you can write whole books on this sort of thing. As I say, PM me if you need any advice.
