I have to be honest and say I am expecting nothing from this game at all except a bit of a thrashing. I always hope it won't be and that I'm wrong in these circumstances but I just can't see past that. Oh well........ COYG
Mrs Plym has a Hospital Appointment just before kick-off time tomorrow......so I'll miss most of the game unfortunately......or maybe fortunately.....who knows.
Considering their size, Brentford are doing very well indeed, sitting 11th, 3 points clear of the mighty Tottenham Hotspur and 4 points clear of, wait for it, Manchester United no less. They're a club who, like us, are data driven and in 2022/23 were one of only 5 Premier League clubs who made a profit rather than a loss. However, they'll have at least one eye on maintaining that league position so they won't be taking any risks with players who have knocks or tired legs. None of us expect a result for Argyle but it might just be closer than we think. I presume Cissoko, Puchacz and Baidoo will be in the squad although probably not Ryan Hardie, who has a knock. We've nothing to lose.
Brentford owned by Matthew Benham an Eton and Oxford degree man brought "Mathmatical modelling" to English football....he had part ownership in Midtjylland a Danish team where he tried his mathmatical modelling ideas out successfully. Argyle I assume are trying to some degree copy Benham's ideas ......He is the poorest owner in the Premier League.....but has made significant money in the Asian betting market and has set up a firm called Smartodds. I have always seen in past years Brentford and Bouremouth as smaller lower league teams....but that has changed dramatically in recent years.
Terrific first half for Argyle. Solid in defence, two good saves from Hazard, Mumba causing Brentford real problems in the WB role that suits him so well. Brentford obviously having most of the play but all their efforts coming to nothing against a resolute Argyle defence.
0-1.....F/T WHITTAKER SCORES IN THE 82ND MINUTE. CLEAN SHEET AGAINST A PREMIER CLUB.....???? WAYNE WHO........ PS.....Rooney this is how its done......I cannot see him managing again.
Brentford make the always fatal mistake of letting Morgan Whittaker cut in on his left foot. He’s blocked once, blocked twice and then Brentford run out of blocks. Bottom corner. Thank you very much and good night.
Well a nice way to start the away wins .. more to come i hope.. Can the miracle man muslic produce and hope its not another Foster appointment any way lets enjoy today exeter home next round
I have realised today where I have been going wrong in my attempts to get Argyle a win. Now firstly I have to say that I have always said previously that I could not ever forecast Argyle to lose. However, this is the first time I have thrown that out of the window and openly admitted I expected a huge Argyle lose so was going to predict that in the prediction league. Duely I put us down for a 5 - 0 spanking and followed that up with the opening comment on this thread. And there you have it the simple answer to all things Argyle winning. Given how wonderfully well I do on the Wycombe betting thread and our prediction thread I should have realised that all I had to do was reverse the expected result and we would be top of the league. I appologise to all for getting it so wrong for so long this season. I saw the goal on the BBC final score programme. The reports from the ground on there were actually quite favourable towards Argyle for most of the game where they said we were under a bit of pressure but coping with it well plus creating the odd chance of our own. They showed the goal a few minutes after scoring and it was a typical Whittaker goal from last season where he did it for fun. No fluke. It was then a bit of a nail bite for the time left. I can't say I'm not shocked though.
You can argue about Wayne Rooney's ability as a manager but not about his character. This about Nance... https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/wayne-rooneys-classy-six-word-9856446
Both Joe Edwards and Morgan Whittaker will be disappointed. In their post-match interviews for ArgyleTV, they both expressed a desire to draw Manchester United in the next round.....
