When was the last time we saw any of our players score from distance? With all the deflected goals going in lately and an exhibition of shooting yesterday from Brizzle Rovers is'nt it about time we followed suit. We continually try to pass the ball in to the net and don't take enough chances with shots from outside the box. When games get tight it's got to be the best option, you never know we might get a lucky deflection or pounce on the rebound. Most of the goals scored against us this season have been fashioned in this way so is'nt it time we tried our luck and started taking more pots at goal from distance.
Absolutely spot on fella. None of the players want to take responsiblity for having a crack at goal and insist on trying to waltz into the penalty area and walk the ball into the net. On Saturday Guly had a good shot from about 15-16 yds that was tipped over but that was it. I remember Hammond's goal against Leeds was outside the 18 yd box - any others?!
Watched the goals review of last season the other night (on dvd...to cheer me up after the Doncaster game) and there were a fair amount of goals scored from outside the box. We all know Lambert has a good shot on him, so when he is back in the team (whenever that may be) it would definetly be nice to see a bit more of that firepower. Even if they don't go in it gives the opposition something else to think about, rather then the one trick pony we seem to be at the minute. I forgot how good Chambo was for us too, weighed in with some important goals and ran at fullbacks something we are missing this year to mix things up a bit.
We haven't scored in our last two away games - against teams in the bottom two at the time. That's not good enough with the quality we have in our squad. I do think Lallana needs to be a bit braver and have a pop at goal more, rather than trying to twist, turn & then stroll it into the back of the net. He's one of the most technically gifted players we've had at Saints in years, and he could score so many more goals than he does at the moment.
I have actually thought this exact same thing recently and the only goal i remember being from outside the box was Hammonds against Leeds on the opening day of the season,we do need to see a bit more shooting from outside the box but like someone else said as long as we score who cares.
Exactly, two games. We've been ok for the previous 18. Top scorers home and away. It's not the way we play that has meant we've failed to score in two straight games, it's the injuries to Lambert, Chaplow and Connolly. For sure, there's nothing wrong with the odd pop at goal from distance (assuming there's nothing better on), but what we're doing is fine. Just need the players fit (or some extra players signed next month).
Lallana puts an amazing curve on the ball. He needs to go back to a couple of years ago when he was cutting inside for fun and scoring
Guly has the odd pop from range. But when you hear the unanimous sighs from the crowd it must knock the players confidence to take the next shot on. I'm as guilty as others but it must affect them.
I might be going mad but I dont remember a season review dvd ever comming out, where did you get yours?
It's in the saints store mate. Got it mid November so should still be in there, if not it's on the online store. Bit steep at £16, Great memories though!
