    Anyone going on Saturday ?

I bought train tickets for this one - having checked the weather forecast for Saturday and train punctuality on the LNW Route this month, I have just refunded them <cheers>

This is the ideal away game for Charlton fans based in the North West or North Wales to attend.

To pick a random example, Preston is a mere 69 miles from Wrexham.

Can anyone remember the last time Charlton played a Championship team?

It might have been the end of the season when we were relegated, in 2020.

    EDIT:

We played Norwich in the 3rd round in 2022. Were they Championship then?

Portsmouth pre-season. Ahadme scored shock horror sensation. Mind you he was unmarked in front of an open goal which had been vacated by the goalie who had gone walkabout.

Must admit I am looking forward to 3rd Round day.

One of the highlights of the calendar,
as first home game, last home game and Boxing day games used to be for me, and most of us I assume.

The alarm bells should be ringing loud at the FA Cup attendances last night - only 5,000 at Sheff Utd.

Don’t forget that the changes were made to our most historic competition in part because of repeated moaning from a greedy German foreign manager who also describes himself as a socialist ….the same guy who left England last summer and went on to pick up a 100 million contract from Red Bull.

    Thanks Klopp, you hypocritical tit.

    Re: Preston tomorrow.

We have sold 1,000 tickets <applause>

Our fans on social media are rightly asking PNEFC for proactive updates on the likelihood of the game going ahead.

So the 3rd round started last night- ridiculous. That's 5 days to play the round. The armchair fans have won.

Yep, each Round is spread over 5 days from this season, with no money spinning replays for the minnows.

    Indeed.
I did a double-take when I saw the Everton game was on Thursday evening - and I didn't realise it was not the only tie on that day.

Add in the Wembley venue for the FA Cup semi-Finals. Another kick in the knackers for fans.
Semi's were always better at a big neutral venue, but not Wembley.
    Wembley was always for Finals.
All about money, nothing to do with integrity.

Having said that, I have never really liked the League Cup semi-Finals being over two legs.
I know it's only a couple of games, but always seemed a bit pointless to me.

The minnows don't get into the League Cup semifinals, so it's okay for the big clubs to have an extra money-spinning game.

    @lardiman

You've got to understand why the rule changes to the oldest Cup competition in the world have been introduced.

Foreign owned Premier League clubs, managed by multi millionaire foreign managers persistently and publicly lobbied the FA that Cup replays were too onerous for their squads. This despite them having by far the biggest and best resourcesd squads. In other words, they were ruthlessly selfish. They did not give a flying fvck about the interests of the English game, and its heritage. It’s also a matter of fact that the two biggest public antagonists against the FA cup were foreign - Klopp, and Guardiola.

Non league clubs have always relied on FA Cup replays to keep them afloat - a couple of years ago a replay saved Newport County from closing the doors. Foreign owners & coaches couldn’t give a monkeys about them.

Tamworth are playing Tottenham tomorrow - their owner and manager have said that a replay should they have earned enough to have covered their costs for at least five years. To give you an idea of how skint they are, they have a broken door on the away changing room, and only one shower.

Meanwhile, lifelong German socialist Jurgen Klopp has fled the scene, and just signed a €50,000,000 deal with Red Bull.

I know some people subscribe to the view that all foreign influence on anything is a good thing , but this is a practical example of where Woke collides with reality.

I never heard Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough or Bob Paisley calling for FA Cup replays to be abolished.

These icons understood and respected English heritage.

I agree with everything you posted up until this.

Who subscribes to the view that all foreign influence is good?
The way you phrase it, it sounds like you're saying anybody who does not reject all foreign influence automatically approves of all foreign influence.
That seems a very polarising and divisive perspective.
Most folk take a much more balanced approach in my view.

Apologies if I have read you wrong.
But that's what it looks like to me.

I’m making the point - possibly clumsily - that it’s difficult to be in favour of Woke stuff, and then complain about its downsides.

The media is understandably very quiet today on what has driven these 5 day FA Cup Rounds with no replays.

For MANY years the domestic cup competitions abroad are not taken too seriously.

Over here football is f*****, staying in the Premier and/or getting in the top four is all that matters.

Our game tomorrow is looking extremely unlikely to go ahead.

There is a pitch inspection today, coupled with pictures of surrounding areas locally being like an ice rink.
