You guessed it, Paul Dickov's equaliser in the X minute of injury time at Wembley on the 30th May 1999. Still makes me feel physically SICK but it's nice to get some recognition for being at the start of something.

Sorry, the reason I've started this thread is because of this write up I've just read

    http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...w-manchester-citys-paul-dickov-vs-gillingham/

Just thought i'd share it with you.

Thank you - for not traumatising us more by posting a video clip. I've taken Gills being relegated better than that experience.
I love the new Wembley - but can't we get promotion without the anxiety ? - Play off finals are only great for the winners - use your own description of how you felt on 30 May 1999

Despite the heartache of the time, that will never be forgotten, that Dickov name edged in every Gills fans head. Time is a great healer and reminding us that is why we love this game with such trauma and passion.

Had to laugh at the opening paragraph, straying slightly from topic...

Manchester City’s dramatic comeback in the 1999 Division 2 Play-Off Final didn’t just salvage their season: it directly led to the present-day living of a dream. Without it, hell they could now be Leeds.

It is the sort of football memories I used to enjoy reading as a kid, the only difference with this one, my (our) team was on the receiving end.

Maybe if we had gone up we may be in the premiership, things could have been different

Personally I think that Steve MacKenzie's goal against Spurs in the 1981 Cup Final replay is the best, certainly in recent memory.

Unfortunately that one doesn't get a lot of credit as later in the game someone called Ricky Villa scored a goal at the same end....

We wouldn't have gotten close to the Premiership, despite how close we were to winning this. Man City (even before the recent riches) had the necessary fan base and backing to succeed.

Literally one of the worst days of my life.

However we came back the following year, which in the long run i believe stood us in better stead. We would never have made the premiership, and i doubt we ever will, but who cares, we'll all still follow the Gills wherever we are and Lower league football has a hell of a lot more soul than the Premiership anyway.
