A few points re the Meslier situation. Of course Farke says he’s one of the best, that’s what any sane manager would say. Where would we the benefit of publically shaming him for his mistakes. Secondly who knows how any of the other options we didn’t sign would perform for us. It’s a different kind of pressure being between the sticks at Leeds. Who can we realistically attract. I suggested Kelleher many times but he has said he has no interest in playing in championship and can’t blame him. Like it or not to non Leeds fans were an established championship club. Spent greatest part of last two decades in it. That’s what prospective signings see. Any keeper will look good in a three minute you tube video too. Even a three minute video could make Meslier class. From memory wasn’t Darlow hopeless in handful of games he played. We haven’t had a top keeper in ten years, why assume it’ll be easy replacing our frenchman
Said it before.... he's had no real competition for his place in all the time he's been here... I've never felt easy with him, no command of his box for a 6 footer, flaps when he does come for it, as much use as a chocolate fireguard on penalties, distribution poor...makes occasional great save (that's his job ) but do his cock ups outweigh those? ... complacency with no competition ....it can't go on surely
Some will think i am joking here but i am very serious. If Farke thinks Darlow isn't up to replacing THAT in goal then the club need to put them both up for sale on the cheap and go and sign two keepers this week. Rumours were we were interested in a Scandinavian keeper who is sat twiddling his thumbs because their season is finished. Go get him. Then dip in to the loan market for someone experienced like a McCarthy or someone. Even go to stoke and get Johannson for 4 or 5 million. We have the funds to bully this league. Go and do it.
If that's the case, then pointless making anymore signings , I keep reading it's a different kind of pressure here, why is it , is it that kind of comment that other fans see us a delusional. There is pressure at all clubs. Farke backs his keeper but his comments after the home win v Derby , he had no problem throwing the fans under the bus.
Because there is an expectation at Leeds sto win all games and keep clean sheets and get promoted every season. Sign for say Hull or Milwall and fans will be happy enough mid table and conceding 50 or 60 goals. Not to mention playing in front of 36k instead of 16k. Of course there’s added pressure
Regarding the opening post. Ipswich changed their keeper against Chelsea last week and got their first win, they’ve moaned weekly at how poor their new keeper has been A couple of top PL teams are interested in Meslier as backup, this hit home at how short we are of top keepers in this country. The best PL teams all have a third choice who would be many Championship teams first choice, second choice keepers seem a different breed, happy to sit doing nothing. Got to at least give that to Meslier, he has consistently stated he’ll never join a team to be their 2nd or 3rd option
There's no more pressure here than at any PL club or half the championship teams. We're not unique. It's just an excuse.
A supporters group thing I read , states its the borefest we served up that's responsible for most of that, we get a head of steam up, folk get up for it, only to see the ball go sideways or backwards, deflates them.
Whilst it plays its part, Farkeball isn't the whole issue. Fans turn up against teams like Blackburn thinking we should be scoring 3 or 4 goals against them. It's similar to cup games against **** opposition, the atmosphere never gets going because of the "we'll beat this lot regardless" attitude. The other thing that is prevailing is the comparison to Bielsaball. Anything less than Bielsaball is now considered not good enough by a lot of fans inside the ground. Winning 1-0 isn't good enough, fans expect 3 or 4 every home game. We were 4-0 up against Oxford recently and the two blokes behind me were still complaining that we hadn't got 6 or 7. We had a game 5 days later ffs. We were being professional for once. To be fair, you hear the same stuff on here on a weekly basis. Fans are spoilt, unrealistically demanding and want better football despite the fact we are top of the league.
Meslier's ****-ups have/will affect the confidence and mindset of other players. The outfield players must be absolutely gutted. He has to be dropped. Couple that with barndoor getting a fortune for doing ****-all, other players must be pissed.
Interesting and believable that Eire….. until you got to the “even a three minute video could make Meslier look class”. You would need a lot of footage to achieve that
I was at the Emirates the night he made his debut, everyone thought we had a real find on our hands but he's been living off that game since, steadily getting worse season by season, the season we came back down and the previous one he had excuses, as the defence and systems we played made it easy for the quality players we faced in the PL. Big Sam saw the problem, dropping him as soon as he got here.
