That’s harsh. He was playing out of position and gave it everything. It’s not his fault he was given that thankless role but I reiterate I reckon he did it well.
He's probably needed a kick up the @r$e for a while. Doing it while playing out of position won't help. He's so enigmatic. Plays a few games where he grabs things by the scruff of the neck and looks a top player. He then looks a total novice with games passing him by. Frustrating as hell.
Tends to be one that plays well when teams stand off us but doesn't do so well in the games where we need to scrap and fight for things. Hopefully it's a side of his game we can see him develop further.
It's not harsh at all. The boy shows no guts for the scrap we're in and does not deserve a position in a team fighting to get out of the **** we're in. He's half hearted in his efforts and no amount of condolences will change that.
Got to agree. His younger brother has a lot more about him apart from, perhaps, the ability to provide something exceptional occasionally.
I’m seemingly in a minority with Rubin. He has bags of talent but can’t quite get to the next level. He was on a different level earlier this season when playing at no 10 with Ng and Tanner down the right but for several reasons, none of his making, it hasn’t gone so well since. However to judge him on today’s performance is unjust and misconceived. He was picked to play a role he wasn’t used to but did as well as anyone could have done in those circumstances. I mean come on what’s he supposed to do with long punts up to him from Alnwick? He’s best suited as a no 10 so let’s judge him when he’s playing his proper role not as a stand in for eg a Jordan Hugjill. Loathsome as he is Russel Martin could see talent when he was mesmerising Southampton earlier this season. He’s a huge talent, he’s ours and should be encouraged not castigated.

Certainly he performed well with Ng and Tanner on the right but also with Turnbull and Robertson around him in midfield. In fact with Siopis and Chambers playing a more deep lying role (and gaining some success) and Robertson further forward we are playing a different system where there is only space for Colwill in wider areas in competition with Tanner, Pillock, Ashford, El Ghazi and O'Dowda (unless the latter plays left wing back). Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the games where he did well against the worst sides in the division at the time, Plymouth and Portsmouth? Yes he was put in a difficult position today but had Robo been available Colwill would have been on the bench. He certainly has talent but for a variety of reasons he is inconsistent and lacks skills in some areas - covering and tackling, keeping his head down when in possession and holding the ball too long and for his height he is not good in the air. Were these not criticisms raised when he first broke into the team 2 to 3 years ago? He has got a lot stronger and now can play a full game when needed but he can't seem to get to the level we require. Perhaps he can't settle as he is asked to play different roles and rarely starts more than 4 or 5 consecutive games. We all want to see him succeed but he is something of a mistery wrapped in an enigma. Finally he should ditch the blond haircut. It may attract the babes but he is also instantly recognisable to his opponents so they know exactly where he is to mark him and close him down.
Nin - I appreciate your opinions on here if not necessarily agreeing with them every time - and this is one of those times. The fact that Colwill was played "out of position" has nothing at all to do with his demeanour/performance on the pitch - it's all about attitude. Rinomohta is not a RB but playing his nuts off out of position to the extent he's keeping Ng on the bench. Chambers is not a natural No. 6 but he's approached the job the last couple of games with the right attitude. Robertson is not a forward playing midfielder but he gets stuck in and has a go - even Siopis was leading the press on his own for god's sake. Performing when things are going well around you is a no brainer - the fact is we're in a battle of attrition and Colwill's languid even lazy approach yesterday did nothing to help us get out of this ****storm we find ourselves in yet again. We will not get out of this situation with players jogging around and waiting for something to happen - you make your own luck. The attitudes of others playing out of position like Rinomohta, Chambers, O'Dowda, Robertson and even Siopis playing forward like a man possessed are what's needed. At the moment Colwill is a luxury player that we can't afford to wait on for that moment of magic to materialise.
